SPE Short Courses

Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 September

Short courses are traditional classroom training at its best. An extensive array of resources and training in one- or two-day formats is available. Interaction with industry experts provides valuable learning, and complements your continued professional development. Register now to attend.

Field Trip

Sunday, 24 September, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

With exposed rock spanning the time from 120 million years ago to today, the San Antonio area is rich in interesting geological sites. This field trip will take you through local oil fields, a fascinating array of surface outcrops, karst features and other structures. At the Edwards Aquifer, the city’s water supply, we will investigate sinkholes, springs of the Edwards Group and other nearby rock formations like the Glen Rose, Buda and Eagle Ford. We will also visit an old Austin Chalk quarry located downtown. Separate ticket purchase required.

Welcome Reception

Sunday, 24 September, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Our Welcome Reception opens the ATCE exhibition, where you can discover the latest technologies and products on the market. The Welcome Reception gives you the chance to network with other leading E&P professionals, while enjoying complimentary food and beverages.

In the SPE Pavilion from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. you can visit with NASA Space Scientist, Dr. Brian Glass, guest speaker for SPE’s Energy Education program, Drilling on Planet Mars. Attendees can visit with Dr. Glass and get a close look at the NASA Mars prototype drill during the Welcome Reception. The NASA Mars Drill will be on display throughout the conference in the SPE Pavilion.

Guest/Spouse Tours

Tours of San Antonio and the surrounding Texas Hill Country are available during ATCE covering history, food, style, art, shopping and more. Space is limited on all tours, so be sure to register early.

NASA Mars Drill on Display at SPE Pavilion

As a part of the conference theme, Focus on the Future, SPE is presenting an educational program – Drilling on the Planet Mars with Dr. Brian Glass, lead scientist for NASA’s Drilling Automation for Mars Exploration (DAME) project. Attendees can get a first-hand look at one of the NASA Mars prototype drills – on display throughout the conference in the SPE Pavilion.

Chairman’s Luncheon

Monday, 25 September, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

ATCE General Chairman Clarence P. Cazalot Jr., president and chief executive officer of Marathon Oil Corporation, will share his insights on the industry at the Chairman’s Luncheon. Separate ticket purchase required.

Annual Reception & Banquet

Monday, 25 September, 6:30 to 11 p.m., Convention Center Ballroom

Prior to the Annual Banquet, all banquet attendees are invited to gather in the foyer of the ballroom for a reception. The Annual Banquet recognizes distinguished SPE members who have made significant contributions to the oil and gas industry. Attend this prestigious event to enjoy an exciting evening and help honor some of the greatest minds in the upstream industry. Separate ticket purchase required.

Many colleges and universities have scheduled special alumni activities to coincide with ATCE 2006. These events provide excellent opportunities for attendees to visit and get reacquainted with old friends and to build new relationships with other professionals. Some alumni events require tickets.

Ramadan Iftar and Dinner

Tuesday, 26 September, 7:30 to 9 p.m., Marriott Rivercenter

This special event has been created for those fasting during Ramadan and includes the “State of the Society Address” from 2006 SPE President Eve Sprunt. A traditional Ramadan menu is planned. Separate ticket purchase required.

Please join us at the Legends of Hydraulic Fracturing reception as we honor the contributions of those who made significant breakthroughs in hydraulic fracturing technology. We encourage young professionals to attend this reception to hear the legends’ stories and be inspired to invent new technologies and solutions that benefit the industry.

SPE “Run for the Future”

Wednesday, 27 September, 7 to 8 a.m., San Antonio River Walk

Whether you walk or run, participating in the “Run for the Future” directly impacts the careers of future petroleum engineers and helps strengthen the future of SPE. Proceeds from this event benefit the Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides four-year scholarships to deserving petroleum engineering students. Separate ticket purchase required.

President’s Luncheon

Wednesday, 27 September, 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Symbolizing SPE’s heritage of industry leadership, this prestigious event is a long-standing tradition at ATCE. One of the highlights of the luncheon is the “State of the Society Address” from 2006 SPE President Eve Sprunt, who passes the presidential gavel to 2007 SPE President Abdul-Jaleel Al-Khalifa. Also recognized are the newly appointed Board members, distinguished members, former presidents and regional award recipients. Separate ticket purchase required.
