Each year at ATCE, SPE sponsors a local high school student tour and presentation program with the aim of promoting petroleum engineering as a viable and desirable career choice.
In keeping with this year’s conference theme, Focus on the Future, SPE has invited renowned NASA scientist, Dr. Brian Glass, who will speak about current NASA space projects that involve drilling on the planet Mars using leading-edge petroleum industry technology. Dr. Glass will also discuss how petroleum engineering careers are important to the future of the planet, humankind and the future of space exploration - as exemplified by NASA projects that use E&P industry science.
This year’s student program will feature a student Q&A with Dr. Glass; a guided tour of the ATCE floor exhibits; and a College Career Fair luncheon hosted by SPE students and SPE young professionals. The students will also view two displays – Energy Careers and a Mars Art exhibit by one of the International Space Station designers’ John Frassanito.
The NASA Mars drill will be on display throughout the conference in the SPE Pavilion.
Visit with Dr. Glass and view the NASA Mars drill from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. during Sunday’s Welcome Reception, 24 September.
