Young Professionals Session

Risky Business: Decision Making With Uncertainty

0800–1330, Tuesday, 23 September, Korbel Ballroom 1 D–F

This year's young professionals session focuses on uncertainty and risk analysis.

The event will begin with presentations by industry experts. Then, young professionals will split into work groups and create a development plan based on a predetermined data set. The session will conclude with the work groups defending their plan in front of a “board of directors.”

Speakers

Thomas A. Blasingame, Professor, Texas A&M University

Thomas A. (Tom) Blasingame is a professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. In teaching and research activities, Blasingame focuses on petrophysics, reservoir engineering, analysis/interpretation of well performance, and technical mathematics. Blasingame's research efforts deal with topics in applied reservoir engineering, reservoir modeling, and production engineering. Blasingame has made numerous contributions to the petroleum literature in well test analysis, analysis of production data, reservoir management, and general reservoir engineering (e.g., hydrocarbon phase behavior, natural gas engineering, inflow performance relations, material balance methods, and field studies). He holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees from Texas A&M University—all in petroleum engineering.

Terry Cammon, President and Owner, Diversified Operating Corporation

Terry Cammon is president and owner of Diversified Operating Corporation (DOC) based in Golden, Colorado. Cammon and his team at DOC have been exploring plays in Indiana and Kansas and have had recent successes in the New Albany Shale. Cammon incorporated DOC in 1985, and since then, it has remained a privately owned independent with its core assets in northeastern Colorado. DOC operates gas gathering systems, including more than 80 wells in three different states, and has drilled more than 300 wells in nearly all oil producing states.

Susan K. Peterson, Chief Engineer, GeoKnowledge

Susan Peterson has more than 17 years of experience working as a consultant, project manager/senior drilling engineer, and petroleum engineering teacher. She specializes in application of risk analysis and decision methods for fullfield development optimization and AFE time and cost models. As a consultant, she performs project-specific risk analysis and provides training on decision and risk analysis. Susan led a risk analysis and decision methods initiative, and has been responsible for the risk analysis on projects that ranged from fast-track remote gasfield development to large capital expenditure oil development. Susan has PhD and MS degrees from Texas A&M University and a BS degree from Marietta College, all in petroleum engineering.

Christopher Chamblee, Supervising Engineer, ConocoPhillips

Christopher Chamblee is a supervising engineer with ConocoPhillips, responsible for producing areas in Louisiana and Texas. Chamblee has been with the company for 23 years and has worked in various locations including Ventura, California; Alberta Canada, Syria, Nigeria; and Houston, Texas. His background includes oil and gas production, completions, reservoir, capital project management, and midstream gas gathering and processing.Chamblee has bachelor and master’s degrees in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and is a registered professional engineer in the state of California. He has been active in SPE for 30 years and currently serves on the Professional Engineering Registration Committee.

Jeff Moss, Senior Drilling Advisor, ExxonMobil

Jeff Moss is a senior drilling advisor with ExxonMobil. Moss spent 7 years as a rig supervisor for land and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and Texas, and 12 years as a drilling engineer and project manager in the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea and east Canada. Since the ExxonMobil merger, Moss has worked in a Drilling Technical Group focusing on new technology opportunities. Moss has been an active member of SPE and AAPG since 1980. Moss graduated from Mississippi State in 1982 with a petroleum engineering degree.
