New Orleans-Area Educators: Learn how to energize your classroom and teach energy topics in a fun and exciting way!

Energy4me, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) energy education outreach program, is hosting an energy education workshop for science teachers (grades 4-12) during SPE's Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE).

Educators will receive comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and its importance, while discovering the world of oil and natural gas exploration and production. A variety of free instructional materials will be available to take back to the classroom.

Activities will include:

  • Hands-on Classroom Activities
Learn age-appropriate energy curriculum that can energize your classroom through hands-on activities. Instructors from the National Energy Education Development Project (NEED), the US's leading provider of energy education programs and materials to schools, lead this part of the workshop. All NEED learning activities are correlated to Louisiana's science objectives and other disciplines.
  • Briefing on Oil and Gas Exploration and Production
An SPE Energy Ambassador speaker will provide an opening briefing on the role of energy in our everyday lives, followed by a question and answer period.
  • Technology Tour
View amazing high-tech tools, software, and equipment used by the oil and gas industry to find and produce energy resources around the world. Tours are led by professional petroleum engineers.

Schedule of Events

Space is limited—only three applicants per school, please. You will be notified by 16 September via email if you have been accepted to attend this year's conference.

  • There is no cost to attend the workshop thanks to a generous sponsorship from ExxonMobil.
  • Teachers will receive a form at the workshop for substitute reimbursement.
  • Continental breakfast and lunch are provided.

If you are accepted and will be attending, please be prepared to show photo ID (passport or driver's license) to pick up your name badge.

Exhibitors: Make your exhibit a tour stop for science teachers

During the workshop, SPE members will lead the teachers in small groups on a tour of the exhibit hall from 0930 to 1130 hours. This is a great opportunity to share your knowledge with educators, and to promote any educational programs your company offers. Please contact us if your company would like to be considered for a tour stop.

SPE Members: Want to make a difference at ATCE?

Volunteer to give our invited teachers a guided tour of the exhibition floor or participate during their afternoon activities to offer insight on how their classroom curriculum translates into real-world projects. Contact us for more information.
