Helen Chang is the 2009-10 SPE Director, Canadian Region.

20 October 2009

The SPE Canadian Region has officially been created, separating from the SPE Rocky Mountain North America Region following the conclusion of the recent Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition. The Canadian Region currently has more than 4,300 members, and we have many opportunities for further growth.

I’d like to congratulate the  winners of the 2009 Petroleum Society awards.
The awards presentation will occur at a special luncheon on 21 October in Calgary.  Following the merger with SPE in August, Petroleum Society awards have been incorporated into SPE’s awards program for 2010 and beyond.

September was an eventful month. Thanks to all of you who came to the SPE Section Workshop held in Calgary in September. We enjoyed celebrating the merger with so many members of both societies at a reception at the same time. We also held the first meeting of the SPE Canada Board of Directors.

We were pleased to have 342 attendees from Canada at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in New Orleans in early October. If you were not able to attend, you’ll soon be able to view the SPE President’s State of Society message on www.spe.org. Audio recordings and slideshows from the technical sessions will be available for purchase on the website as well.

Please contact the SPE Canada Office if you need assistance. I also welcome your comments and suggestions.
