SPE Regional Alignment

Dear Section Officers,

As you may be aware, SPE has undergone an evaluation of its 15 geographic regions over the past two years. A few changes resulting from this review will be implemented over the next few weeks.

The SPE Regional Alignment Task Force undertook a review of all SPE regions to determine if adjustments should be made to better serve SPE members now and in the future. The Task Force considered section membership data, geography, cultural and geopolitical aspects, as well as SPE's objectives for membership growth in evaluating the appropriate regional alignment.

The SPE Board of Directors approved the following regional changes effective at the end of October:

1. Consolidation of 3 regions (Central & Southeastern N. America, Mid-Continent N. America, and Northeastern N. America) into 2 regions as outlined below:

  • Mid-Continent N. America Region receives 4 sections (Dallas, East Texas, Fort Worth, and Lou-Ark) from Central & Southeastern N. America Region and 2 sections (Illinois Basin and Midwest Gas Storage) from Northeastern N. America Region. Roy Knapp serves as the Regional Director for the Mid-Continent Region until his term ends in October 2010.
  • A new Eastern Region is created, consolidating the Northeastern N. America Region with 5 sections (Delta, Evangeline, Mississippi, Southeastern, and Warrior Basin) from Central & Southeastern N. America Region. Dean McPhearson serves as the Regional Director for the new Eastern Region until his term ends in October 2010.

2. Establishment of a new Canadian Region that includes all sections in Canada.

  • The new Canadian Region is being created as a result of the merger with the Petroleum Society of Canada, completed in August 2009. The Canadian Region includes Calgary, Edmonton, Lloydminster, South Saskatchewan and Atlantic Canada. Helen Chang serves as the new Canadian Regional Director until her term ends in October 2010 and Arnis Judzis is the Rocky Mountain Regional Director until his term ends in October 2012.

If you have any further questions or need additional information please contact your regional director or Brian Wiggins, SPE Sections Manager.

Regards,
Behrooz Fattahi
