Summary
Earlier solutions for this pipeline lateral-buckling problem are reviewed. A
new, straightforward solution procedure is presented with illustrative problems
and design curves. The new procedure can be implemented easily with a simple
digital computer program. The solution gives a theoretical upper bound for the
axial load that can be developed through heating. This upper bound can be
helpful in the early stages of pipeline design.
