Abstract

Drill pipe tool joints have been in use for many years. The pressure capacity of these joints has not been a major worry until recently. As hydraulic horsepower increased, higher drilling pressures have been tried. The question of pressure capacity keeps arising. This paper presents a theoretical approach to this problem and presents verification of test results obtained in the laboratory. It is now possible to predict pressure capacity of the tool joints when selecting the drill string for the well.
