Deepwater Subsalt Drilling Hazards

9-10 September 2008
Galveston, Texas USA

The oil and gas industry is developing new technology and techniques for delivering complex deepwater, subsalt wells. Subsalt hazards can slow drilling, delay completion and, in some cases, cost operators an entire well. This workshop will address concerns, solutions, and best practices related to overcoming subsalt hazards.

This focused workshop will bring the geological and geophysical, drilling, and drilling services communities together for an intense, two-day exchange of lessons learned. The deepwater subsalt drilling hazards issues will be considered through numerous lenses, including operational, regulatory, and environmental. Case histories will target the challenges of mobile tar, narrow pore pressure gradients, low effective stress, and rubble below salt.  Prediction, pre-drill, and while-drilling, as well as methods for dealing with subsalt drilling hazards will be explored.  This workshop provides an interactive exchange of ideas to promote shared best practices and networking within and across communities.
