Subsea Standardization

3-4 December 2008
Austin, Texas, USA

During the past twenty years as the subsea industry has matured, numerous operator and supplier initiatives have been implemented to standardize subsea production equipment. While these efforts were an excellent start, the results have had no material impact on the industry as a whole.

The current reality of our industry, unlike anything experienced so far, is defined by continual increases in complexity and costs of deepwater and HPHT developments, the requirement for high levels of equipment reliability, lengthening of equipment delivery cycle times, and a critical shortage of experienced subsea technical staff. Subsea standardization, at an industry level, has the potential to have a positive impact on some or all of these areas. The purpose of this ATW is to explore the standardization possibilities for equipment suppliers and operators alike. Presentations and discussions will focus on:

  • Identifying the value of subsea standardization
  • Identifying barriers to implementing subsea standardization
  • Understanding what levels of standardization may be available
  • How to create a “path of least resistance” to acceptance and use of subsea standardization
