SPE Young Professionals Workshop: Integrated Solutions and Global Responsibility—What’s Next?

8–11 September 2008
Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam Hotel
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Welcome Message from the Co-Chairpersons

Dear Fellow Young Professional,

On behalf of the workshop steering committee, we are delighted to invite you all to participate at the seventh Young Professional Workshop in Europe.

There are three important elements shaping the future of the oil industry: Energy, Talent and Technology and their shortage is what is currently driving the market. The accelerating demand for energy, limited supplies of conventional hydrocarbons, the migration towards more unconventional sources, increasingly complex geopolitics, the big crew change upon us and an industry no longer dominated by men, mean the energy industry is changing like never before.

This workshop will focus on two important technical aspects:

  • Reservoir Management: New sources of hydrocarbons are more difficult and expensive, not
only to find, but also to produce, oil prices are higher than ever and demands are predicted
to continue to rise. What are the Oil & Gas companies doing to deal with this? The focus is
on solving subsurface uncertainties. Innovative development alternatives and best practices is
the way many companies are dealing with these challenges.
  • Global Sustainability: Effects of global warming and the environment in general, possible
solutions and potential implications, are areas of great concern to the public industry and policy
makers alike. These concerns could have an impact on the future of the Oil and Gas industry.
The workshop aims at broadening our horizons and understanding on numerous challenging
issues that the Oil and Gas industry faces today. There will be a series of presentations followed
by discussions which will address subjects such as:
    • Reservoir Management
    • Geopolitics
    • Global Sustainability
    • Petroleum Economics
    • Gender Diversity in the Oil Industry
    • Career Development
    • Talent Retention

There will also be soft skill sessions and team exercises aiming to provide the participants with
resources that will help them manage and develop their own career path and interpersonal skills.
We hereby encourage you to join us at this event to broaden your view on and beyond exploration and production and to invite your management to support your attendance at this workshop.

Best regards,
