About this Workshop

Workshop Description

This workshop will focus on the best development strategies in the light of today’s evolving market conditions. It will discuss how to take advantage of the current market by aligning both EPC contractors and clients at a time of relatively lower costs of manpower resources, materials and manufactured goods.

The current lull in activity and its associated uncertainties are generating new opportunities but also new risks. This may be the time to break away from traditional project techniques and decision-making processes.

The emergence of new technologies and introduction of innovative technical approaches may also impact overall project lifecycles but may not necessarily benefit the industry in the region.
These new circumstances deserve in-depth discussion and sharing of ideas among all stakeholders including operators and major contractors from the region and other areas of the world on a number of topics:

  • Evolution of market conditions
  • Forecasting difficulties and uncertainties
  • Breaking away from traditional project practices
  • Risks and their mitigations
  • New opportunities to be seized
  • Room for innovation in future projects
  • Introduction of new technologies and their specific applicability

Who Should Attend?

The workshop is mainly addressed to oil and gas professionals, involved in various disciplines such as management and information, facilities and construction, production and operation, risk management, processing systems and design, project management, flow assurance, platforms, floating systems and subsea systems.

Workshop Guidelines

Format

Workshops maximise the exchange of ideas among attendees and presenters through brief technical presentations followed by extended Q&A periods. Focused topics attract an informed audience eager to discuss issues critical to advancing both technology and best practices. The majority of the presentations are in the form of case studies, highlighting engineering achievements and lessons learned. In order to stimulate frank discussion, no proceedings are published and the press is not invited to attend.

Documentation

Proceedings from the workshop will not be published; therefore, formal papers and handouts are not requested of speakers or panel members. An FTP site containing released copies of the workshop presentations will be available to attendees within 4–6 weeks following the workshop.

Poster Session

The Steering Committee encourages registrations from professionals who are able to prepare and present a poster on a relevant project. For further details kindly contact Barbara Stahli, event manager at bstahli@spe.org.

Scribe Report

The Steering Committee will appoint a “scribe” to record the discussions and to produce the full workshop report for SPE. This report will be circulated to all attendees as the workshop deliverable within 4–6 weeks following the workshop. The copyright of the report is with SPE.

Attendance Certificate

All attendees will receive an attendance certificate attesting to their participation in the workshop. This certificate will be provided in exchange for a completed workshop questionnaire.

Continuing Education Units

Workshop attendees qualify for SPE Continuing Education Units (CEU) at the rate of 0.1 CEU per hour of the workshop.

Commercialism

In remaining consistent with workshop objectives and SPE guidelines, excessive commercialism in presentations will not be permitted. Company logos should be limited to indicate the affiliation of the presenter(s).
