About Chester

Chester is an International Heritage City, the only city in England to have a complete wall around the city which dates from Roman and Medieval periods. There are extensive remains of the Roman occupation of 2000 years ago, including an amphitheatre. The later historical periods of note are the "black and white" wooden buildings and cathedral of the late 16th century medieval times. Chester was a fashionable centre in the 19th century and has the earliest example of a shopping mall in the Victorian "Rows" and later Georgian squares. With one of the UKs top horse-racing courses, the River Dee crossed by a medieval bridge of 7 arches (all different sizes (!)) and a suite of locks on a canal, Chester is a delightful place to visit. The Workshop venue is within the city walls and only 100m from the pedestrianised city centre.
