Unlocking Deepwater Potential: Strategies and Technologies

13-16 September
Mumbai, India

Deepwater exploration and development in water depths ranging from 500 to beyond 3000 meters will continue to play an increasing role in meeting global energy demand. However, to unlock this resource in deepwater, we will require a more complex and advanced technology solutions to overcome some of the technical challenges surrounding the deepwater developments. In India alone, the deepwater potential, from 1.35 million SqKm of sedimentary area, is about 51 billion bbl of oil and oil equivalent of gas reserves.

So far, 74 deepwater blocks have been awarded on the East Coast, West Coast, and Andaman areas in seven rounds of New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP) by the government of India. 31 hydrocarbon discoveries have been made in the deepwater blocks, out of which 26 are gas discoveries and five are oil/gas discoveries. The discoveries are spread over Mahanadi, Krishna-Godavari and Cauvery basins on the East Coast of India, which is poised to be a gas hub of Asia.

The successful deepwater drilling effort under the Sagar Samriddhi campaign launched by ONGC in August 2003 resulted in the discovery of the G-1, GS-15, and Vashishtha fields, which are scheduled to begin production in 2011–2012. The gas discoveries D1 and D3 by RIL are on production now. Challenges for further deepwater developments in the region include complex development concepts, drilling and completion technical hurdles and a host of other technical issues related to production systems including flow assurance.

This ATW is planning 10 sessions over three days with emphasis on deepwater case histories in India as well as other areas around the world; exploration/appraisal and development concepts; drilling and completion; subsea and surface facilities; production and surveillance, including flow assurance and real time monitoring, complex project management, HSSE and a panel discussion on the future of
deepwater.

Who Should Attend?

The intended audience of this Applied Technology Workshop (ATW) is multidisciplinary professionals in the deepwater exploration and production sector. This includes facilities engineers, production
engineers, drilling engineers, reservoir engineers, production managers, asset managers, G&G professionals, and any professional facing challenges in deepwater environments.
