Calling all Young Professionals in the Oil and Gas industry!
On behalf of the workshop committee, we welcome you to join us at the fourth Asia Pacific Young Professionals Workshop (YPW). With the industry experiencing the effects of global economic volatility it is fitting that the YPW be held in China, a country nevertheless undergoing extraordinary growth.
Previous workshops have looked at ‘the big crew change’, preparing today’s Young Professionals (YP)s for tomorrow’s challenges, and addressing YPs’ expectations as they join the industry. Here, our focus is on preparing YPs not just for tomorrow but for a sustainable long-term career. The aim is to stimulate the growth and development of YP’s through understanding of and insight into the industry’s technical and workplace challenges. This technical focus will work in conjunction with an awareness of interpersonal skills, which combined will enable YPs to enjoy a sustainable career- in a boom or recession.
Key to the success of the YPW is the concept of knowledge sharing between YPs and experienced mentors. We are privileged to have the 2010 SPE President, Dr. Behrooz Fattahi, attending to deliver a keynote address. The YPW committee and discussion leaders consist of both YPs and experienced mentors, which will result in a springboard for discussion and diverse networking opportunities. Additionally, participants will span many technical disciplines, cultural backgrounds and working environments, which will expand our understanding of industry challenges at a regional level.
The YPW will involve a high level of delegate participation in a range of interactive technical and soft skill sessions. Stimulating discussion topics will range from tackling the challenges of low permeability reservoirs and water production, to new digital and wireless technologies. There will be opportunities in these interactive sessions to build teamwork skills and engage in group debates. Experienced professionals will add their expertise to the process, guiding YPs on marketing themselves, think at a business level and work through regional, cultural and technical challenges.
Your attendance at the YPW will ensure the development of your industry awareness even as it moves through swiftly changing global times. YPs have a chance to network with experienced professionals and other YPs from a range of cultures and backgrounds, adding not only to their technical skills but interpersonal skills as well.
