About this Workshop

Workshop Description

Approximately 80% of oil and gas fields can be characterised as matureĀ  or highly depleted. Efforts to sustain production from these declining assets are continuously being pursued. With the age of many fields now ranging from 20-50 years, and with a 5-10 years gestation period for the broad acceptance of new technology, a field developed with, and still using, 15-year old technology is not uncommon.

Furthermore, newly completed wells are becoming progressively more complex to service and workover. Intervention techniques are struggling to keep pace with this complexity thus the technology developments required to manage these wells need to be refined and simplified to ensure cost effective field management can be progressed.

This Applied Technology Workshop will focus on revitalisation of assets (mature, marginal and small remote fields) through innovative and cost effective technology solutions with emphasis upon applications for onshore and offshore fields experiencing rapid production decline. It will particularly appeal to individuals who are responsible for, and have an interest in, the application of field rejuvenation technology, along with the planning and execution of asset revitalisation.

Workshop Focus and Objectives

This Workshop will provide excellent networking opportunities for sharing of the latest technologies and its deployment, best practices and fit-for-purpose techniques focused upon revitalisating assets . Among the topics and issues to be discussed are:

  • Managing the mature field environment.
  • Reservoir and production data - management and integration.
  • Innovative technology and solutions.
  • Opportunities for marginal and remote / small field development.
  • Understanding the technology gaps and development lead times.
  • Case studies and breakout sessions.

Who Should Attend?

This Workshop will be of interest to petroleum engineering professionals, production engineers, drilling engineers, well services and service companies involved in asset revitalisation.

Participants will be encouraged to present their case histories (successes, failures and lessons learnt) and other experiences for discussion.

Documentation:

  • Proceedings will not be published; therefore, formal papers and handouts are not expected from speakers.
  • Work in progress, new ideas, and interesting projects are sought.
  • Professionally-prepared visual aids are not required; handwritten viewgraphs are entirely acceptable.
  • Note-taking by participants is encouraged. However, to ensure free and open discussions, no formal records will be kept.

Workshop Deliverables:

  • The committee will prepare a full report containing the highlights of the Workshop discussions. This report will be circulated to all attendees. A one-page summary will be prepared by the Workshop Co-Chairperson, which will be posted on the SPE Web Site, and published in the Journal of Petroleum Technology (JPT), if space permits. The copyright of the summary report will belong to SPE.
  • PowerPoint presentation materials will be posted on a specific SPE URL address after the Workshop. Provision of the materials by the discussion leaders will signify their permission for SPE to do so.

Commercialism:

In keeping with ATW objectives and the SPE mission, excessive commercialism in posters or presentations will not be permitted. Company logos must be limited to the title slide and used only to indicate the affiliation of the presenter and others involved in the work.
