Nanotechnology: Exploring Solutions for 21st Century Upstream E&P Challenges

13-16 June 2010 | Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

About this Workshop

Notable advances in E&P are often made possible through leveraging technologies from non-oil-and-gas industries. The emergence of recent innovations in nanotechnology is opening up a new vista of applications that are relatively untapped for E&P challenges. This workshop will build on the achievements of the first workshop held last February to further strengthen collaboration between the nanotechnology and E&P communities that ultimately will lead to significant deployment of nanotechnology solutions to E&P challenges.

This workshop will aim to:

  • Showcase nanotechnology solutions and value proposition for E&P applications
  • Focus on key areas where nanotechnology can create step-change impact to improve oil recovery and hydrocarbon production
  • Discuss deployment roadmaps for various strategic technology areas of interests (reservoir characterization, reservoir management, drilling/completion, production operations, improved oil recovery processes, etc.)
  • Identify and address potential barriers to early adoption and commercialization of nanotechnology solutions
  • Create communities of interest/practice on nanotechnology applications
  • Facilitate networking, knowledge sharing, and exchange of ideas

Who Should Attend

Professionals from industry, academia, and government who are interested in nanotechnology and its applications in the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry will benefit fromt this workshop.

Workshop Guidelines

Documentation

  • Proceedings will not be published; therefore, formal papers and handouts are not expected from speakers.
  • Work in progress, new ideas, and interesting projects are sought.
  • Professionally-prepared visual aids are not required; handwritten viewgraphs are entirely acceptable.
  • Note-taking by participants is encouraged. However, to ensure free and open discussions, no formal records will be kept.

Deliverables

The Steering Committee will appoint a “scribe” to record discussions and to produce the full workshop report for SPE. This report will be circulated to all attendees. The copyright of the Summary Report will belong to SPE.

PowerPoint presentation materials will be posted on a specific SPE URL address after the Workshop. Provision of the materials by the discussion leaders will signify their permission for SPE to do so.

Commercialism

In keeping with ATW objectives and the SPE mission, excessive commercialism in posters or presentations will not be permitted. Company logos must be limited to the title slide and used only to indicate the affiliation of the presenter and others involved in the work.

Attendance Certificate

All attendees will receive an attendance certificate attesting to their participation at the Workshop. This certificate will be provided in exchange for a completed Workshop Attendee Survey.

Continuing Education Units

Attendees at this workshop qualify for SPE Continuing Education Units (CEU) at the rate of 0.1 CEU per hour of the workshop.

Attendees’ Information

General and detailed accommodation information will be forwarded to registrants with the attendee package prior to the scheduled Workshop.

Dress Code

Casual clothing is recommended. The Workshop atmosphere is informal.
