Poster Session Information

The poster submission deadline is 24 May 2010.

As an adjunct to the scheduled presentations, the Steering Committee will incorporate a poster presentation session in this workshop. The poster session will allow participants an opportunity to present additional new ideas to those interested.

All participants are encouraged to prepare and bring a poster presentation to the Workshop. Posters will be on display for the entire Workshop period and provide participants an excellent opportunity for networking. As with the session discussions, the poster session will be conducted off the record to encourage frank discussion and presentation of unconfirmed or partial results. Presentations on both research and field experience are solicited.

Whether or not you elect to participate in the poster session or have been invited by the Steering Committee to present during one of the regular sessions, please come prepared to participate actively in the discussions. Open interaction is encouraged. With the full cooperation and participation of all attendees, we anticipate an outstanding Workshop.

Poster Presentations

Poster presentations are a valuable means of promoting discussion, both within specific disciplines and across widely different research areas.  A poster should be able to stand alone.  A colleague should be able to determine the purpose, data, and significance of a project simply by looking at and reading the poster.

Poster Guidelines

Posters at SPE are intended to be highly informal (i.e. it is not necessary to provide an exhibition type display panel, sheets of paper printed from a p.c. are more than adequate for the purposes of displaying your material). In addition, it is important to:

• Include a clear title with the author's name, affiliation, address, and contact numbers (telephone and facsimile)
• Make an abstract in large bulletin type 
• Ensure any charts, drawings, and illustrations (similar to those one would use for journal articles, or in making slides) are readable from a distance of several feet.  It is best to keep illustrative material simple
• Make the display as self-explanatory as possible
• Draw a plan keeping the size and number of illustrations in mind
• Place the information sequentially beginning with the main idea or problem, method used, result etc.
• Use large print for narrative material; letters should be a minimum of 24 points.
  

Please note that each poster will be assigned a display area.  The dimensions of the poster panel will be communicated at a later date.

Commercialism Guidelines

SPE has a stated policy against the use of language that is commercial in tone in the posters and this should be avoided.  Whilst company logos are appropriate on posters, avoid using product names.
