More than 40% of the world’s conventional gas reserves are estimated to be in reservoirs that contain significant amounts of sour gas components such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. The presence of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide in proportions as high as 70%, along with heavy metals (such as mercury) poses a number of challenges for drilling, completion production and processing.
