In the current situation of high energy prices and major environmental sensitivities, the task of reservoir characterisation using well tests and monitoring has become an even more significant challenge. The themes of the meeting will be how to reduce the loss of production and cost of tests and increase the value of reservoir characterisation information obtained, while also limiting the environmental impact of any production.
The recent years of high energy prices have led to disincentives to reduce production while testing wells and spend time and effort on reservoir monitoring, as the cost of delayed production has increased substantially, and personnel are busy and limited in number. A new incentive for well testers is to do the job as quickly and as effectively as possible, with a consequent attraction for automation of measurement and interpretation. The workshop will focus on approaches and experiences of designing and conducting well tests and reservoir monitoring in this new environment.
Current and new technologies that are worthwhile topics of discussion are likely to include:
The ATW will be of interest to well testers, reservoir and production engineers, production managers, reservoir management decision makers, measurement providers, tool developers, software developers and service companies.
1. Proceedings will not be published; therefore, formal papers and handouts are not expected from speakers.
2. Work in progress, new ideas, and interesting projects are sought.
3. Professionally-prepared visual aids are not required; handwritten viewgraphs are entirely acceptable.
4. Note-taking by participants is encouraged. However, to ensure free and open discussions, no formal records will be kept.
In keeping with ATW objectives and the SPE mission, excessive commercialism in posters or presentations will not be permitted. Company logos must be limited to the title slide and used only to indicate the affiliation of the presenter and others involved in the work.
All attendees will receive an attendance certificate attesting to their participation at the Workshop. This certificate will be provided in exchange for a completed Workshop Questionnaire.
This Workshop qualifies for SPE Continuing Education Units (CEU) at the rate of 0.1 CEU per hour of the ATW.
General and detailed accommodation information will be forwarded to registrants with the attendee package prior to the scheduled Workshop in September 2012.
Casual clothing is recommended. The Workshop atmosphere is informal.
