About this Workshop

The fourth in a series of SPE workshops on subsea processing will be held in Stresa, Italy and will build on the success of previous workshops held in Oslo, in 2010 and Stresa in 2006 and 2008.

The 2012 workshop will provide attendees with:

• An overview of the main technical and strategic issues affecting the development, qualification, selection, implementation and operation of subsea processing technology.

• An opportunity to discuss these issues and network amongst leading users and specialists in subsea processing from around the globe.

Description

Since the last workshop, several new pumping and separation systems have been put into operation and a new batch of subsea processing systems has been sanctioned, including the first subsea compression systems. In addition to exploring these systems, the workshop will address all aspects of subsea processing technology including separation (gas/liquid, oil/water separation and sand management), water treatment and injection, single and multiphase pumping systems and gas compression systems. All these systems require reliable and cost effective power supplies, monitoring and control systems as well as installation, maintenance and retrieval strategies.

As the market grows, technology needs become more challenging. Prospective applications are moving into deeper waters and high pressure reservoirs and fields are being found further from shore or in existing infrastructure. Systems must also deal with more complex fluids, heavier crudes and increased focus is being placed on subsea processing options for Arctic prospects.

Efforts are also continuing to develop simplified, standardised and more robust systems for future applications, both in existing fields and the more challenging future prospects.

• Compression and Power
• Design and Operational Considerations
• Operating Experience

Objectives and Deliverables

The workshop has been designed to maximise opportunities for networking and learning. The event will start with a keynote session including a panel discussion with senior managers from the subsea industry, prior to starting the five sessions. Each session will begin with selected presentations, followed by detailed discussions and in some cases, group work activities.

The main objectives are to:

• Provide an overview of the market trends within subsea processing
• Share knowledge around developing effective business cases for subsea processing
• Update attendees on the current pumping, separation, compression and power systems
• Encourage discussion around technology and “perception” challenges
• Provide solutions to these challenges, for example through utilisation of test facilities, technology qualification and risk management
• Provide information on operating experience for subsea processing systems

Workshop Guidelines

Formats

Two and a half days of informal sessions, with a number of short presentations and breakout discussions per session, an evening Welcome Reception on Sunday, 11 November and Dinner on Monday, 12 November. Full details will be issued with the joining instructions in October 2012.

Poster Presenter Opportunities

SPE welcomes posters at this event. If you would like to display a poster and share your expertise with the attendees of this workshop, please submit a brief description of your proposed topic with your registration.

There is no dedicated poster session in this workshop, instead posters will be displayed throughout.

Attendance

70-80 delegates from relevant disciplines with proven experience and/or knowledge of the subject areas being covered.

Continuing Education Units

The workshop qualifies for SPE Continuing Education Units (CEU), at the rate of 0.1 CEU per hour of the workshop.

Scribe's Report

The steering committee will appoint a scribe to make a full report of the workshop, summarising all presentations and discussion. This report will be circulated to all attendees. The copyright of the scribe’s report will belong to SPE.

Attendance Certificate

All attendees will receive a certificate from SPE confirming their participation.

Cancellation Policy

Written notice received 30 days before the starting date of the workshop entitles registrants to a 50% refund. There will be no refund for cancellations received after this  time but alternative delegates will be welcomed.
