Workshop Description

In the quest for hydrocarbon energy resources, the challenges posed by the uncertainties of explorations, development, technical, geographical and economic viability are ever-more-increasing. All the more reason why the importance of selecting, operating and maintaining an offshore facility must be emphasised. Having well-functioning offshore facilities could mean the difference between profitability and financial demise for any operator. The management of an offshore facility should encompass the complete life cycle consideration of facility, starting from the concept selection to the final decommissioning. How do we ensure safe and cost-effective production facilities against all odds in the 21st century? What would be the holistic approach to balance all the factors to be considered and how far can technology be exploited; marginal fields developments, Arctic, unorthodox locations and finally when do we decide on decommissioning and ensuring every expectation will come to the finish line together?

Workshop Objectives

This 2 ½ day workshop will be a starting point for participants to garner key insights on industry best practices on developing effective production systems and managing ageing facilities, emerging technologies, project updates and case study, best practices, safety and environmental issues through the medium of discussions, sharing and exchanging ideas.

The workshop agenda is expected to include the following topics:

• Field development planning - factors to be considered: production profile consideration, types of development (brown, marginal, challenged cases),
  installation methodology and deployment of technologies
• Challenges and risks mitigation in addressing aging facilities
• Human factors
• Case study, lessons learnt and best practices
• Safety and environmental issues
• Decommissioning strategy and lesson learnt

Workshop Guidelines

Documentation

• Proceedings will not be published; therefore, formal papers and handouts are not expected from speakers.
• Work in progress, new ideas, and interesting projects are sought.
• Note-taking by participants is encouraged. However, to ensure free and open discussions, no formal records will be kept.

Workshop Deliverables

• The committee will prepare a full report containing the highlights of the Workshop discussions. This report will be circulated to all attendees.
• PowerPoint presentation materials will be posted on specific SPE URL address after the Workshop. Provision of the materials by the discussion leaders will signify their permission for SPE to do so.

Commercialism

In keeping with the Workshop objectives and the SPE mission, excessive commercialism in posters or presentations will not be permitted. Company logos must be limited to the title slide and used only to indicate the affiliation of the presenter and others involved in the work.

Attendance Certificate

All attendees will receive an attendance certificate attesting to their participation at the Workshop. This certificate will be provided in exchange for a completed Workshop Attendee Survey.

Continuing Education Units

This Workshop qualifies for SPE Continuing Education Units (CEU) at the rate of 0.1 CEU per hour of the Workshop.

Transportation/Visa

Delegates are advised to book their international/domestic airline tickets early from their country/city to Malaysia. Further detailed transportation information will be available on the Workshop website by September 2013.

All travellers to Malaysia must be in possession of passports valid for at least six (6) months with proof of onward passage, either return, or through tickets. Contact your local travel agent for information on visa requirements to Malaysia.

Dress Code

Casual clothing is recommended. The Workshop atmosphere is informal.
