About this Workshop

Abstract

The role of gas-condensate fields becomes more and more important because the share of gas production from such fields increases. Enhanced condensate recovery is one of the key problems for gas-condensate fields. The depletion-drive development of such fields is associated with reservoir pressure reduction causing retrograde condensation of high-boiling hydrocarbons with their partial dropout into the liquid phase and strata losses. The dropped out condensate is immobile and is almost not involved in a filtration process. As a rule, from 30 to 60% of condensate initially in place is left in reservoirs.

Until now, a cycling process (dry gas reinjection) has been the only well-known stimulation method. In many cases, the use of the cycling process is limited by economical and/or other reasons.

The gas industry is in great need for improvement of existing stimulation methods for gas-condensate fields and search for new technologies to enhance condensate recovery, both due to reservoir pressure maintenance to prevent condensate dropout, and by recovery of the retrograde condensate already dropped-out in reservoirs.

Most gas-condensate targets which are planned to be developed in the near future contain oil reserves in the form of underlying or peaked oil rims. Conventional techniques of reservoir pressure maintenance by oil rim flooding are inefficient, and in case of development by gas cap expansion, an average oil recovery factor for such targets does not exceed 20%. When oil wells of standard design have low productivity, the designer cannot select an economically attractive option of oil rim development, and as a result, investors do not hurry to put money into development of such complex targets. The mentioned problems require search for new techniques and technical facilities for development of gas-condensate reservoirs with oil rims.

The number of workshop participants is up to 100 oil and gas industry specialists who are involved in development of gas-condensate reservoirs, study of multicomponent filtration of liquid and gas in porous media, as well as in development of gas and condensate production technologies. The meeting is intended for specialists engaged in the following areas:

Your abstract will be reviewed by the Programme Committee to consider its acceptance for the Workshop Programme.

Poster Session

In addition to the scheduled presentations, the Programme Committee will incorporate a poster presentation session within this workshop. The poster session will allow participants an opportunity to present additional new ideas to those interested. The applicants willing to participate in the poster session should contact Victoria Rachinskaya at vrachinskaya@spe.org for the requirements for poster preparation and selection for the workshop.

Attendance

Attendance will be limited to a maximum of 100 delegates with proven experience and/or knowledge of the subject areas being covered.

Conference Report

  • Presentation materials will not be published; therefore, formal papers and handouts are not expected from speakers. PowerPoint presentations will be posted on a specific SPE URL address after the workshop. Provision of the materials by the discussion leaders will signify their permission for SPE to do so.
  • The Committee will prepare a full report containing the highlights of the workshop description. This report will be circulated to all attendees. The copyright of the summary report will belong to SPE.

Commercialism

In keeping with applied technology workshop objectives and the SPE mission, excessive commercialism in posters or presentations will not be permitted. Company logos must be limited to the poster slide and used only to indicate the affiliation of the presenter and others involved in the work.

Attendance Certificate

All attendees will receive a certificate from SPE attesting to their participation in the workshop.

Dress code

Casual clothing is recommended. The workshop atmosphere is informal.
