Since the early days of drilling HPHT wells, the oil and gas industry has now evolved to a stage where exploration and appraisal wells are drilled by most operators. Although HPHT wells still pose a significant challenge to our industry, exploration and appraisal drilling has been facilitated by the maturation and subsequent application of technologies increasing their chance of success. The next step is to establish routine HPHT development wells which at the current time are very limited in count.
