About this Workshop

Abstract

The Statoil-operated Norne Field offshore Norway has been in production as a subsea field since 1997, mainly through water injection. The expected ultimate oil recovery is more than 60%—probably the highest recovery of all subsea oil reservoirs worldwide.

In 2010, the Norne license partners agreed to release large amounts of subsurface data from the field for researchers worldwide to test and compare models and algorithms on a common set of real-field data. This formed the basis for a SPE workshop in 2011, with the release of data from one part of the Norne field—the e-segment. This received a very positive response from both within the industry and academia.

A full data set from the entire Norne field has now been released, forming a unique opportunity for researchers and engineers to meet and discuss with real data. Furthermore, it provides a starting point for a new open approach to field development within the industry. Based on this dataset and other field experiences, this workshop will provide excellent networking opportunities for:

Aims and Objectives

This comprehensive and focused two-day workshop will provide scientists, as well as professionals from the oil and gas industry and service companies with an opportunity to share best practices in closed-loop reservoir management using real production and seismic data from the Norne field. The comparative case study will be organised in the form of an interactive competition and the results will be compared and discussed in the workshop, as well as other field experiences.

The workshop will provide a comprehensive survey of state-of-the-art methodologies in closed-loop reservoir management. Field examples of how 4D seismic may be implemented and integrated with reservoir modelling for increased oil recovery (IOR), will be presented in a diverse and innovative environment for focussed discussions.

Workshop Guidelines

SPE workshops are topic-specific, intensive events that are smaller in scope and size than conferences. Workshops maximise the exchange of ideas among attendees and presenters through brief technical presentations followed by extended Q&A periods. Focused topics attract an informed audience eager to discuss issues critical to advancing both technology and best practices.

Format

This workshop consists of two days of informal sessions, with a number of short presentations, case studies, breakout discussions, an evening welcome reception on Tuesday, 25 June, and dinner on Wednesday, 26 June. Full details will be provided with the joining instructions which will be sent in May.

SPE welcomes posters at this event. If you would like to display a poster and share your expertise with the attendees of this workshop, please submit a brief description of your proposed topic upon registration. There is no dedicated poster session in this workshop. Instead, posters will be displayed throughout.

Attendance

75–85 delegates with proven experience and/or knowledge of the subject areas being covered, are expected to attend.

Continuing Education Units

The workshop qualifies for SPE Continuing Education Units (CEU), at the rate of 0.1 CEU per hour of the workshop.

Scribe's Report

The steering committee will appoint a scribe to make a full report of the workshop, summarising all presentations and discussions.
This report will be circulated to all attendees. The copyright of the scribe’s report will belong to SPE.

Attendance Certificate

All attendees will receive a certificate from SPE attesting to their participation.

Cancellation Policy

Written notice received 30 days before the start date of the workshop entitles registrants to a 50% refund. There will be no refund for cancellations received after this time but substitute delegates will be welcomed.
