About this Workshop

Abstract

Intelligent Well Completion (IWC) adoption in Latin America has increased due to the development of Brazil’s pre-salt reservoirs even in the face of perceived risks, higher costs, and additional installation times when compared to a conventional completion. The value of flexibility played a key role in justifying the technology. In addition, IWC has enabled more diagnostics at completion and production phases, and predictive maintenance of well completion equipment.

The full value of the technology should consider a system view to plan, design, and execute projects involving IWC to avoid oversimplification throughout disciplines, hardware, and software interfaces being employed to solve the completion task. In addition, the use of appropriate modeling and analysis tools to understand the data from IWC is an important piece of this puzzle in order to reduce engineer time required for the job and reliable decision making. Finally light-workover friendly IWC is essential for cost savings in deepwater and ultradeepwater scenarios.

Objectives

The purpose of the workshop is to enable operators, service companies, and other organizations to follow how IWC is being currently used in deep and ultradeepwater scenarios, understand the challenges and needed technology solutions, and also provide the opportunity for cooperation and communication between regional industry specialists.

Focus

The workshop will focus on the latest IWC applications, best practices to be considered during design, completion and production phases, managing the interfaces, and effective use of the data available.

The workshop will cover:

  • Technology updates (where we are and how we got here)
  • IWC planning and design to ensure full value
  • How to execute IWC projects
  • Integrating IWC into production systems
  • Measuring value and success of IWC
  • Regional case histories
  • The future of IWC (upcoming technologies)

Who Should Attend

The workshop is meant for experienced individuals who will actively share their own case histories and experience as well as contribute to the discussion. We expect participation from professionals in well engineering, reservoir engineering, production engineering, subsea engineering, and primary processing engineering.
