Petroleum Professional Certification Program

The SPE certification program is designed to provide E&P professionals an opportunity to increase recognition of the recipient's high professional standards and commitment to the profession. Applicants will have to demonstrate a minimum level of technical knowledge to be certified. This certification is established through a four-step evaluation of each applicant.

Young Professionals Workshop

The programme is designed to cater for tertiary qualified oil and gas professionals under the age of 35 years or with less than 10 years industry experience. Industry professionals will be invited to share their experience and present talks on topics of general interest and relevance to the industry.

Regional Student Paper Contest

The Regional Student Paper Contest offers students pursing degrees relating to the oil and gas industry from the Asia Pacific region the opportunity to present papers to a technical review panel. Winners will be invited to compete with other regional winners at the SPE International Finals to be held at the 2010 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) in Florence, Italy.

Education Day

An Education Day will be organised for the benefit of high school students in Indonesia as an initiative to introduce them to the discipline of petroleum engineering, and the industry in general. 100 high school students will be invited to attend the one-day programme, and industry professionals will be invited to share their experience with students and deliver talks on topics of general interest and relevance to the industry. The programme will be conducted in Indonesian Language.

Students will be provided guided tour of exhibition area and they will be able to see first-hand state-of-the-art technology used by engineers and the sophisticated software available for solving many engineering challenges. It is hoped they will leave the conference with a better understanding of what petroleum engineers do and their role in the broader community. Equally important, they will also become aware that a petroleum engineering career is full of challenges, teamwork and responsibilities.

Teachers’ Day

Teachers’ Day is a new initiative programme that incorporates science, technology and energy topics into the classroom in an exciting way. 50 high school teachers will be invited to attend this programme with an objective of introducing them to the oil and gas industry. In return they will share their experience gained through this programme with students exposing them to make a career majoring in petroleum and related engineering programmes. The programme will provide age appropriate energy curriculum to high school students that will bring energy into the classroom through hands-on activities. Teachers will benefit from this programme by receiving comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and its importance, while discovering the world of oil and gas exploration. The programme will be conducted in Indonesian Language. A guest speaker will deliver an address on a relevant energy topic.

As part of the programme, teachers will tour the exhibition area to learn about the latest high-technology equipment and software used by the oil and gas industry.
