SPE Petroleum Engineering Certification Programme

Monday, 19 September 2011 ● 0800-1730

Obtain international recognition for your petroleum engineering knowledge. Take the SPE Petroleum Certification Exam while attending the 2011 Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference.

This is a joint effort with the Society of Indonesian Petroleum Engineers (IATMI) of Indonesia to provide this certification exam session.

What is the SPE Petroleum Engineering Certification Programme?

SPE’s Petroleum Engineering Certification Programme provides a recognised credential of petroleum engineering knowledge. The voluntary certification programme offers SPE members an opportunity to demonstrate a high level of commitment to their profession. Certification review courses and exams are held around the world throughout the year.

What is required to participate in the programme?

SPE’s Petroleum Engineering Certification Programme requires that applicants demonstrate a minimum level of technical knowledge to be certified. This is established through and evaluation of each applicant.

  • Education
An undergraduate engineering or related science degree from a recognized institution.
  • Examination
An examination to measure the level of engineering fundamentals learned from education and to measure the applicant’s ability to solve practical engineering problems. The examination may be waived if the applicant has previously passed a written exam qualifying him/her to practice in petroleum engineering as a registered, licensed, or chartered engineer.
  • Experience
Experience and training in the engineering community, usually for a minimum of 4 years.
  • Ethics
Professional peer references as to performance and attitudes.
  • Membership
Member in good standing with the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Why consider certification?

You have worked hard to attain your level of education, technical knowledge, and professional skills. Becoming certified under the SPE Programme can help you to:

  • Demonstrate your continued commitment to your industry.
  • Validate your technical knowledge and skills.
  • Continue your professional development.
  • Achieve employer and peer recognition.

SPE Certification is a credential of technical knowledge as demonstrated by exam. SPE Certification does not constitute a license to practice petroleum engineering or permit the use of the title engineer in public or on legal documents.

* Certification exams are subject to cancellation in the event of insufficient registrations. Please register as soon as possible.
