Young Professionals: Building Viable Energy Resources through Innovation in Technology and Business

As many Young Professionals are being placed with a higher level of responsibility in the industry, a greater emphasis is being put on young employees to step into challenging technical and managerial roles. Equally important, the Young Professionals have the responsibility to be proactively involved with the leadership development process and to be creative and innovative in order to meet the challenges. To help address these issues, the Young Professionals Workshop is designed for graduates and young professionals in the oil and gas industry under the age of 35 years with less than 10 years industry experience in any technical discipline. Industry executives and young professionals will have the opportunity to engage in discussions about the future directions for young professionals in the oil and gas industry.

Workshop Objectives

• Personal and professional development – Individuals, companies, and the industry will benefit.
• Encourage active membership of young professionals in SPE – Present their perspectives and interests; promote young professionals as the active interface between:
  • Student chapters and experienced professionals within SPE
  • Universities and the oil and gas industry
• Identify and develop future leaders for SPE and industry – Recognise and affirm the leadership of potential young members by offering them greater responsibilities and opportunities within SPE.
• Networking – Promote networking among young professionals and within SPE. This will enable the sharing of ideas, knowledge, and experience to enhance their capabilities to meet various challenges.
• Innovation/Creativity – To capture new ideas and initiatives from young professionals/students and support them within SPE.

Target Audience and Suggested Topics

This workshop is designed to cater for young professionals in the oil and gas industry under the age of 35 or with less than 10 years industry experience in any technical discipline, and university students. Industry executives, young professionals, and students will have the opportunity to engage in discussions about the future directions for young professionals in the oil and gas industry, and to address issues of importance to them.
