Education Day and Teachers’ Day

Wednesday, 15 October, 0900-1500

Meeting Rooms 1 & 2, Plaza Level

Education Day is an initiative to introduce local high school students to Petroleum Engineering and the broader oil and gas industry. Approximately 100 students with a keen interest in mathematics and science, and considering studying engineering at university, will be invited to attend. Young professionals and industry experts will share their knowledge and experiences with the students through a diverse range of talks and hands-on activities. To further spark their interest, students will be given a guided tour of the exhibition area where they will be able to see first-hand, some of the high-end technologies developed by engineers and used within our industry. It is anticipated that students will leave the conference with a better understanding of what Petroleum Engineers do and their role in the broader community. Equally important, they will become aware that a career in Petroleum Engineering is full of interesting challenges, rewarding experiences and a diverse range of opportunities.

Teachers’ Day is an initiative to incorporate science, engineering, technology and energy topics into classrooms through creative teaching and fun interactive activities. High school teachers will be invited to attend this programme with the objective of introducing them to the energy industry. Teachers will be provided with training and interactive tools to share their experiences gained through the programme with students at their schools. The programme aims to assist teachers to convey the importance of studying science and mathematics subjects to students looking for a career in Petroleum Engineering and the oil and gas industry. The Teachers’ Day programme will be held in conjunction with Education Day, with teachers attending special sessions to receive comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and its importance in society.
This programme will foster deeper relationships between our industry and the local community, from which further engagement with schools may be formulated in the future.
