Carbonate oil and gas reservoirs in the North Caspian basin are present at all stages of field development. Shallow onshore carbonate oil fields were discovered in the region in the early 1920s, the giant oil, gas-condensate and gas fields in North Caspian basin were discovered in the 1980s to 2000s and discoveries continue to be made and expanded particularly offshore in the perspective North Caspian blocks.
