Call for Papers
SPE and the conference program committee invites you to participate at the conference.
Submit a paper proposal by 1 June!
Under the theme “Applications and Technologies for Our Energy and Climate Future,” this conference highlights and defines the issues and challenges of CO2 for relevant onshore and offshore projects.
This year, the technical program will include papers received by open invitation and requested presenters. Poster and paper presentations promote valuable discussions, bringing forth the latest in CO2 applications and technologies.
We encourage you to submit a proposal one of the pertaining topics:
Active sequestration projects and pilots (case histories)
- Large and small scale projects
- Lessons learned
Beneficial uses (enhanced recovery operations)
- EOR/storage optimization based on oil/carbon price
- Enhanced gas recovery (including tight gas/shale gas/CBM)
- Heavier oil, semi-miscible, high pressure
Economics
- Whole value chain and hubs
- Project-specific costs
- CCS prospects per landscape (carbon price, competition with renewable, nuclear)
- CO2 purity technology-economic tradeoffs for capture transportation and storage
- Impact of CO2 abatement contingencies
Monitoring, verification, and accounting
- Surface and subsurface plume tracking
- Offshore applications
- Applicability, precision, repeatability, and timing of repeat surveys
Project design
- Well construction: design, installation, operation, intervention, and closure
- Compression/pumping – with complex streams or in difficult environments
- Telemetry and control systems
- Offshore and onshore CO2 pipelines design considerations
- Offshore considerations (platform reuse, shipping, etc.)
- CO2 separation aspects
Regulatory and outreach
- Regulatory
- Liability
- Public influence/acceptance
- International legislation differences (including role of treaties)
Reservoir and geological engineering
- Storage optimization of capacity and injectivity
- Saline reservoirs
- Depleted oil and gas reservoirs
- Coal seam and organic shale reservoirs
- Modeling
- Reservoir performance modeling (plume tracking and permanence)
- Geological modeling
- Dispersion modeling
Risk assessment
- Portfolio risk assessment
- Offshore
- Surface/subsurface
- Analogs with extreme environments (deepwater, arctic, etc.)
- Groundwater assessments
Site selection and characterization

- Land access
Well integrity
- Corrosion
- Scaling
- Asphaltene deposition
- Cement integrity
Join us in New Orleans to share your technical innovations and perspectives with a diverse audience of CO2 practitioners at the conference that focuses on issues and challenges that CO2 presents to the E&P sector, as well as to the environmental, power, and sequestration sectors.
