The Azerbaijan Society of Petroleum Geologists (ASPG), established in 1993, became affiliated with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) in 1994. It has held 10 international conferences, some of which were jointly organized with AAPG and EAGE. It has organized 9 local Republic conferences, as well as many seminars, workshops, and field trips. ASPG publishes the Azerbaijan Geologist scientific and monthly information bulletin. ASPG also works with students, holding 20 annual student conferences, as well as special lessons, field trips, and technology days to help students determine their future professions and other activities.

EAGE Azerbaijan Chapter

The EAGE local Azerbaijan chapter started its existence as part of EAGE ( on 30 October 2002. EAGE is a professional association for geoscientists and engineers with a worldwide membership, enabling a global network of professionals to share their knowledge and experience. Since 2003, EAGE LС Azerbaijan has done most of its work jointly with the Azerbaijan Society of Petroleum Geologists (ASPG).

In early 2010, the tripartite collaboration between the EAGE Azerbaijan chapter, the Azerbaijan Society of Petroleum Geologists (ASPG), and the National Committee of Geophysicists of Azerbaijan (NCGA) on LС EAGE Azerbaijan’s initiative was signed. The aim of agreement is to collaboratively increase the activities of the societies and to provide operative information exchange. A steering committee has been organized to coordinate the activity of the union under the leadership of the president of LС EAGE Azerbaijan, Dr. Akif Narimanov, who has served from the chapter’s first day of activity.


The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the science of applied geophysics and the education of geophysicists and has been founded in 1930. SEG is the international organization, which has more than 33,000 members in over 140 countries and fulfills its mission through its publications, conferences, forums, website and educational opportunities. Starting from 1993 the AMGK also operates as a local chapter of SEG in Baku, Azerbaijan.


AMGK (Azerbaijan Milli Geofizika Komitesi) is the Azerbaijani title of National Committee of Geophysicists of Azerbaijan (NCGA), which has been established in 1993 and devoted its activity to launching various studies in Azerbaijan, integration of Azerbaijan’s geophysicists into international geophysical community  and organizing international and local conferences and workshops. NCGA has already made a tradition to hold biennial International Geophysical Conferences.
