Message from the Chairman
On behalf of the programme committee, I am pleased to announce the call for papers for the 2011 SPE/IADC Drilling Conference which will be held at the RAI Congress Centre in Amsterdam, 1-3 March 2011. This conference is a great opportunity for you to share your knowledge and learn from colleagues at the most widely attended and highly regarded conference of its kind.
Our conference theme “Being the Best – Growing our Business” reflects the challenge we must all address. In a rapidly changing and tough economic environment, outstanding business performance is more important than ever. For this conference we are looking for a range of presentations that cover all aspects of performance improvement allowing us to share and learn through the good, the bad and the ugly case histories. Further it’s a great opportunity to learn from you how we have improved our business through new technology applications and practices in drilling and well completions activities. Good people being our greatest asset is often stated and today, as markets start to emerge from the doldrums of the economic downturn, we shall be challenged once again to provide competent high calibre staff to the growth cycle that our industry shall again embark on. We are also interested in hearing how these market fluctuations are being managed and especially about best practices regarding the development of capability and performance culture, both in the current business environment and for the future challenges we face as we grow our industry.
Great performance and, ultimately, being the best goes far beyond pure technologies and practices being successfully applied. In fact, great performance starts with great safety and environmental performance, and I believe that our industry has made great strides in improving our safety and environmental performance. There is much more to do, but year on year performance improvement is demonstrable and so I would emphasise that we would really like to hear about your efforts to improve safety and environmental performance.
Whether you are an experienced technical writer or thinking of writing your first paper proposal, here is your chance to make a significant contribution to the well construction business by presenting, discussing and explaining your distinguishing achievements and learnings with your colleagues in the industry.
Send in your paper proposals no later than 12 June 2010 via www.spe.org/events/dc.
I look forward to reviewing your contributions and to welcoming you to the Amsterdam Conference on 1 March 2011.
