Message from the Chairperson

The tenth SPE Digital Energy Conference and Exhibition, 19–21 April 2011, comes at a time when the E&P industry faces new challenges. Over the last decade, this conference has presented key challenges facing our industry and practical solutions based on a digitally integrated oil field. It brings together innovative practitioners reporting on business issues and solutions for the twenty-first century.

This year's theme is "Navigating the Inflection Point: Building Digitally Integrated Oil & Gas Businesses," which recognizes that our industry is at an inflection point and moving beyond the digital oil field. We will explore how this affects businesses and translates into technology and solutions.

With increased regulatory pressures, we will also discuss what challenges face remote operations, increasing levels of automation, and integrated operations, as well as the implications of information-driven risk assessment on our historical view of surveillance and analysis.

The 2011 Digital Energy Program Committee invites you to submit an abstract to be considered for presentation at the conference. If your abstract is accepted, your paper will also be included in the multisociety library, OnePetro.

The committee has introduced format changes designed to promote a more in-depth examination and vigorous discussion of critical topics. Case studies, lessons learned, and “wild innovative ideas” are of particular interest, as well as examples of the different perspectives mentioned above.

Please submit your abstract online by 15 November 2010.

Join us to present leading innovations and collaborate among innovators, implementers, and end users. Your contribution is vital to the conference’s success.

Sincerely,

Rick Morneau, Chevron
