Geomechanics: Fundamentals, Applications and Advances

This one-day pre-conference seminar is organised by the SPE Western Australia Section Continuing Education Committee. The objective is to increase the awareness of petroleum engineers and geoscientists on oil field geomechanics fundamentals and its applications in petroleum exploration, development and production; and recent advances in geomechanics technology with field examples from the Asia Pacific region.
Renown industry experts will be making technical presentations on a variety of topics from basics to how to build a geomechanical model; applications of geomechanics in drilling, completion, stimulation, field development and reservoir management; enhanced production and production induced changes in the stress field; geomechanics in unconventional, coal seam gas, gas storage and CO2 sequestration.
Poster presentations of related topics are also considered for those who would like to share their knowledge and experiences. The programme will also include panel discussions on advances in geomechanics and site visits to the world class rock mechanics and rock physics facilities of CSIRO and the Petroleum Engineering Department of Curtin University are planned as part of this unique educational seminar.
