Lessons Learned and Near Term Priorities for In Situ Authorizations at the AER

Since its creation almost 4 years ago, the AER has been evolving in structure and process. At the same time there have been significant changes in the economics of In Situ projects and now more recently we are seeing a consolidation of operators within the sector. The intent of this presentation is to provide an update on how all of this affects In Situ Oil Sands Authorizations.  The presentation will have three areas of focus. The first is an overview of the In Situ Authorizations process and a discussion of areas we would like to encourage more bundling of applications. Current timeline expectations will also be discussed. The second is an overview of our new organizational structure and the rationale behind this change. Finally the current state of several longer term In Situ Oil Sands issues will be discussed. These include some topics where the AER has not issued formal direction but where our approach on some technical and process related issues have changed.
