Dear Industry Colleagues,
On behalf of the Executive and Programme Committees of the 2018 SPE EOR Conference at OGWA, we are delighted to invite you to participate by submitting your paper proposals for this event.
The SPE EOR conference will be held from 26 to 28 March 2018 at the new and impressive Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. Held in conjunction with one of the most renowned exhibitions in Oman and the region, professionals from the regional and global oil & gas industry will gather in one place. This year’s theme will be ‘Staying the Course and Moving to New Frontiers’.
Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods and technologies have been in development, evaluation, and steadily increased implementation in recent years, which has brought about further advancements in both understanding/conceptualisation and the implementing/operating levels. Hence, consolidating the EOR assumed prominent position in the oil extraction methods in many parts of the world.
The recent significant and longer lasting reduction in oil price posed major challenges to EOR applications that are highly variable, capital intensive, challenging to operate, and in most cases field specific. However, the oil industry has responded to these challenges by stepping up the efforts by optimising development, improving unit technical costs and by advancing technologies and extractions methods, and EOR applications are benefiting most from the new realities.
Building on the decades of effort, from conceptualisation to operation of EOR applications is key for the future field developments. Responding effectively to economic, developmental, and operational challenges has been demonstrated and therefore sustaining the drive and effort must continue. This is through continued strong integration of all disciplines, subsurface, engineering and production, and responding to wider industrial and economical changes and new developments.
There is a need for the industry to stay the course for existing EOR application, to ensure that they continue to thrive, whilst progressing to new frontiers to unlock further hydrocarbon resources. These frontiers are targeting resources that are extremely difficult to access and extract, as well as new technologies and methods. While the main EOR methods (thermal, chemical, and miscible gas) increase recovery by improving oil mobility and displacement, further enhancements could be achieved by the combination of improved productivity and application of novel methods.
Staying the course and moving to new frontiers does require professionals, experts, and thought leaders sharing EOR developmental efforts, industrial experience and new advances, and by addressing the emerging and implementation challenges more effectively. The Middle East region, and Oman in particular, is achieving major advances in EOR developments and in moving to new frontiers, and so this well-established leading EOR conference in Oman is well positioned and a key enabler.
The conference will bring together global experts in all forms of EOR techniques to present, share and discuss their ideas, initiatives and findings. It will cover the latest advances in thermal EOR, miscible gas injection EOR, chemical EOR, emerging and innovative methods including means of improving productivity and accessibility to difficult oil resources, monitoring and surveillance for EOR, EOR screening studies, facilities design & operations, production chemistry aspects, and drilling and completion challenges for EOR applications and much more.
This is your opportunity to contribute to the value of the SPE EOR conference and to accelerate your professional career. Please note that only abstracts submitted by 1 October 2017 will be considered by the Programme Committee.
We look forward to your valued participation.
