Invitation to Vienna 2011
On behalf of the Local Advisory Committee I welcome you, with great pleasure, to the 73rd EAGE Conference & Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC from 23 to 26 May 2011 in Vienna. For the second time in five years Vienna will have the privilege of hosting the EAGE Conference in this beautiful city located in heart of Europe.
This conference is framed by unique times for our industries in many ways. First of all, compelling changes are happening within the industry as a result of a continued global economic recession. These changes include corporate and policy reforms, prudence in spending, restructuring in organizations and adopting leaner processes to eliminate waste and become more cost efficient. For some it is about survival and for others it is about repositioning for growth in the medium and long terms.
Furthermore, a unique energy revolution is currently happening in “unconventional” natural gas. What has begun recently as the shale gale revolution in the USA could end up being an increasingly powerful wind that blows through the world economy. Thus, unconventional gas has not only introduced new supplies to the market, it has also introduced a new factor to the complex global challenge of matching natural gas supply to demand. This may resume its upward course after the global recession. In addition, the current strong environmental awareness in our industry has added another dimension to sustainability.
Against this background the theme “Unconventional Resources and the Role of Technology” has been selected for Vienna ‘11. The event will provide a forum for industry captains, professionals, academia, and government agencies to share ideas on the role of research and technologies towards creating sustainable supplies of oil and gas from huge yet untapped unconventional resources in an environmental friendly way.
Vienna has inspired people for centuries. It is a perfect place to offer you exciting opportunity to make necessary social and business contacts and to prepare you to face the challenges that the future brings.
Welcome to Vienna!
Ashiq Hussain
