Student Paper Contest
15 April 2012 | 0800–1700 | JW Marriot Hotel
The contest will be held within the framework of 2012 Latin American & Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference in Mexico City.
Twenty one (21) proposals were selected from eight (8) different countries to compete in the categories of undergraduate, master and PHD.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three papers in each division and they will be delivered during the conference. Cash prizes will be awarded to finalists in their respective divisions. First Prize for each category includes a trip to the 2012 SPE Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas 8-10 October 2012, where the award-winning student will present the paper at the SPE International Student Paper Contest. Judges may determine honorable mention awards for papers not achieving finalist status, but worthy of recognition.
Deadlines
The final paper (manuscript) and other required documents will be
due on 13 March 2012.

Student Chapter Meeting

Under the theme “Exploring New Connections,” this meeting will join youth leaders to promote the exchange of ideas and encourage integration among SPE student chapters. It is held in conjunction with LACPEC in order to encourage participation from all Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The first two meetings held were successful in creating strong regional integration between students. This year’s meeting will continue to help increase the technical, professional, and personal development of future industry leaders. It will include an ice-breaking activity, presentations from SPE and young professional leaders, group activities, and a cocktail reception.
The principal objetives are:
- Increase the innovations of the student chapter’s base on the experiences of others.
- Generate regional ties between the student chapters.
- Show the students the reality of working in the petroleum industry, avoiding myths and confirming truths.
- Motivate the “continuity” of the student chapters
- Create and improve the ties between the students from different nationalities increasing personal and professional relationships.
- Train the future leaders in the industry with a regional visión, working in their social, communication and leadership skills.
It will include an ice-breaking activity, presentations from SPE and young professional leaders, group activities and a cocktail reception.
