About the Convention Center

Palacio the Eventos Convention Center will be the host venue of LACPEC 2014 in Maracaibo. It is located 0.3 km (0.19 miles) from the Centre of Maracaibo and its infrastructure is constituted by 6 levels, being the first two a shopping center (Palacio Mall) with more than 240 stores.

Maracaibo is the capital of Zulia state in western Venezuela, and it is the second largest city in the country after Caracas. Maracaibo is the most important economic center on the western side of the country due to the petroleum activity. It has more than 2 million people and is famous for its typical music, big shopping malls, and beautiful parks. The city is situated on the western shore of the strait that connects Lake Maracaibo to the Gulf of Venezuela. It is about 320 miles from Caracas. Visitors to Maracaibo find an interesting mix of attractions—both historical and contemporary.

Airport 

Maracaibo is serviced by La Chinita International Airport (MAR), located 14 miles SW of Maracaibo, in the municipality of San Francisco. A number of international and domestic carriers fly into Maracaibo, including American Airlines, Avianca, Copa Airlines, and Tiara Air.

The airport services fee is 85,60 Bs. for domestic flights and 406,60 Bs., and it’s usually paid by most airlines. In the event that the fee has not been paid, authorities usually require that payment be made in local currency.

Weather

Maracaibo has a so-called semiarid climate and is one of the hottest places in Venezuela. Although hot, the large Lake Maracaibo tempers the weather and temperatures. The city sees an average of around 29°C / 84°F year-round. This is a high average and there are highs of 40°C/104 °C and lows of less than 20°C / 68°F. Most rainfall (rainy season) is seen in September and October.

The currency in Venezuela is Venezuelan Bolivar Fuerte (VEF), frequently called Venezuelan Bolivar. Its abbreviation is Bs.F.
