PS5 Induced Seismicity and Microseismic

Session Chairs: Mark Taylor, Consultant, Potential to Profit Consulting; Paola Paris, Stimulation Technical Represenative –DESC, Schlumberger Limited

As with all technologies as new methods develop new tools follow and new consequences can emerge. Over the past decade many of industry’s plays began to rely on horizontal wells and multi-stage frac’ing. A challenge to the technical teams was, and always will be, to determine if the frac design being pumped was effectively accessing the resource. Micro seismic has evolved with the completion technologies and with pad style development. Effective use of Micro seismic allows companies to save significant amounts of time and money in their drilling and completion programs. Some of the industry’s leading experts will share their thoughts on what Micro seismic can do today and where it may be going in the future. Micro seismic also plays a role in addressing a consequence of some frac programs, induced seismicity. Understanding induced seismicity; where, why, when and how it occurs, are critical components in developing an effective development plan in a new play area. Our speakers will walk you through the sometimes confusing world of induced seismicity and leave you with a confident understanding.
