Section YP Programs

The mission of Section YP programs is to identify, engage, and develop SPE members 35 years old and younger, as well as other industry newcomers, by providing relevant technical education and networking opportunities.   Section YP programs are classified as a sub-committee of the section and focus on the needs of the local membership. To find out if your section has a YP Program, view the Section List and get involved.

YP Network (Online Community)

The worldwide network allows young members to discuss career issues, ideas, events, and best practices for sustaining SPE and the industry. With the network, young professionals function as an international team, maximizing the impact of YP initiatives through the use of blogs, discussion forums, a shared calendar and document archives.

eMentoring

Young professionals are uniquely positioned to benefit from an ementoring relationship with a more experienced professional and to serve as a mentor to a student seeking to join the industry. Email enables ementoring relationships to flourish across geographic boundaries and time zones.

The Way Ahead

The Way Ahead is a magazine designed for and edited by young professionals in the oil and gas industry. In it, you will find items of particular interest to younger members of the industry, including articles on finding your career path, improving key skills, and the roles of young professionals around the world.

Ambassador Lecture Program

The Ambassador Lecture Program links E&P professionals aged 35 or younger with SPE student chapters, other universities and secondary schools. Young professionals make presentations that describe their career, promote SPE and encourage and prepare students to enter the industry.

Awards

SPE YP awards recognize leadership and contributions to public and community matters, the Society, the petroleum engineering profession, and the petroleum industry by members under age 36.

Certification

SPE has developed matrices of professional competency, and engineers in certain geographic areas can avail themselves of an SPE certification program.

Energy4Me

Get involved in energy education! SPE’s Energy4me program provides the ready-to-go resources you need to give classroom presentations to your local primary, intermediate, or secondary schools. Find ideas and see how other SPE young professionals are participating at www.energy4me.org/speaker.
