KNUT ERIKSEN, SPE, was appointed senior vice president–business development at Oceaneering International. Eriksen joined Oceaneering in 2010 as senior vice president–subsea products. His career spans more than 35 years in the oil and gas industry, with the majority of his roles related to deepwater engineering and offshore projects. Before joining Oceaneering, Eriksen served as senior vice president–global execution with Natco Group. He previously held numerous management positions in engineering, operations, and business development at Aker Kvaerner and Aker Maritime, and served as vice president of worldwide deepwater development at Unocal. Eriksen earned MSc degrees in engineering and civil engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Washington State University, respectively. He also completed his MBA in international management at Thunderbird School of Global Management. Registered as a professional engineer in Texas and California, Eriksen is also a registered European engineer. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers; he also serves as a member of the HSSE committee of the National Ocean Industries Association.
VASU GURUSWAMY, SPE, vice president–services at Schlumberger Information Solutions, was elected to Energistics’ board of directors. His 30-year career in the upstream oil and gas industry—serving in a variety of roles worldwide—has been with Schlumberger. After earning a bachelor of technology degree at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and a master of science degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, USA—both in chemical engineering—he joined Schlumberger, working in the wireline business in the Far East. After serving in various field positions in east Asia, India, and the Middle East, he moved to the US and became responsible for a wide variety of upstream information technology (IT) and knowledge management projects and for an upstream software product development portfolio. Guruswamy then managed the company’s North Sea business operations out of Aberdeen, following which he served as head of Schlumberger’s global IT operations, based in Paris. At present he is on the advisory board of the European Union-sponsored Optique project focused on big data solutions in the upstream oil and gas industry.
