Dear Colleagues,

This month we are gearing up for SPE Middle East Health, Safety, Security and Environment Conference and Exhibition (MEHSSE) to be held in April. The executive plenary session will address Sustaining Energy Through an Integrated HSSE and Business Approach. Co-located at MEHSSE is the inaugural ADNOC/SPE Fun Run. Fun Run is a community initiative highlighting corporate social responsibility whilst encouraging health and fitness. Fun Run will be a melting pot of oil and gas industry executives who have come together to support a charitable cause. The aim is to participate in a 2km run while contributing to a nominated charity through ticket sales whilst reinforcing the oil and gas industry’s continued commitment to corporate social responsibility. The 2km run is open to oil and gas professionals and their families. Fun Run supports the goal of MEHSSE 2012 to promote health in a safe and secure environment.

Middle East Regional Awards (MERA), the annual celebration that recognises and rewards the very best in the oil and gas industry is on. Nominate your deserving peer by sending a nomination through to sections@spe.org before 15 March. Members will be rewarded for their technical contributions, professional excellence, career achievements as well as industry leadership. For more information, visit www.spe.org/awards.

I encourage you to send me new ideas and initiatives that will add value to our members and industry at mesections@spe.org. With the joint efforts of all, we are building a better and stronger society.

Finally the 5th annual IPTC held in Bangkok attracted 3,810 delegates representing 63 countries and more than 500 organisations. IPTC is co-sponsored by SPE with 3 other professional societies and is a mile-stone reflection of joint co-operation amongst the associations.
