Petronas Taps SPE’s Dato’ Wee Yiaw Hin as Exec VP and CEO of Upstream Business

SPE member Dato’ Wee Yiaw Hin has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Upstream Business for Petronas, the Malaysian national oil company. 

Wee Yiaw Hin is a member of Petronas' Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Management Committee and sits on the board of several companies within the Petronas Group. He has been active in SPE, serving as a director of the Northern Asia Pacific Region on the international SPE Board of Directors and is currently a member of the SPE Asia Pacific Board of Directors.    

He joined Petronas in May 2010 as Executive Vice President for E&P Business from Talisman Energy Malaysia where he was Vice President. Before that, he has had a successful and extensive career with Shell, with his last position as Vice President, Malaysia for Shell Upstream International Asia and Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Exploration and Production Companies. While at Shell, he led the Country Leadership Team in overseeing Shell’s upstream operations, and represented the business in the Shell Malaysia Business Council, and headed various sections in the company’s operations in Malaysia, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

He holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of Wales and an MS degree from Imperial College, London.
