SPE’s regional awards are designed to recognize members who’ve contributed exceptional service and leadership to the society, as well as those who’ve made major professional contributions to their technical disciplines at the regional level. These awards are handed out at region and section meetings. Congratulations to the Canada Region Awards recipients below.

 

Regional Service Award

The SPE Regional Service Awards acknowledges exceptional contributions to the Society of Petroleum Engineers at the section or regional level and recognizes singular devotion of time and effort to the programs and development of the member’s section.


Ramez Hanna Alla
Production Engineer
Chevron Canada

Ramez Hanna Alla is a production engineer with Chevron working on the Liard basin appraisal team tied to the Kitimat LNG project. He has five years of unconventional/tight rock experience in the WCSB through various roles. He is actively involved with the SPE at both the section and regional level; serving recently as Chairman of the section and as vice chair for the joint URC/HOC conference starting in February 2017. Outside of industry affairs, he is a board member with Big Brothers & Big Sisters, president of his condo board, an avid motorcycle rider, traveler, wannabe fitness nut, and an extreme activity enthusiast. He enjoys meeting people of all walks of life, as they each have unique lessons to share.

Patrice Vallee has been working in the upstream oil and gas industry for the last 25 years. He is currently the pre-development manager at Husky Energy and is involved in the research & development community in Newfoundland and Labrador.

He has held various management, leadership, and technical engineering roles within the industry having worked in France, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada.

Patrice earned his MS in petroleum engineering from the Institut du petrole in Paris, France.  He also holds a BS (Honours) and MS in mechanical aeronautics & space engineering from SUPAERO, Toulouse, France. He received a Certificate in Project Management from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

Patrice is a member of ENSPM and ENSAE (France) and became a member of SPE Canada in 2014. In 2015, he chaired the first SPE workshop held in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.


Outstanding Young professional Award

The Regional Young Member Outstanding Service Award recognizes contributions and leadership to the public, the community, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the petroleum engineering profession within the region.

Michael Hauer is currently the Student Support team lead for SPE Calgary and serves on the boards of both the SPE Calgary Section and the SPE Canada Education Foundation. He has been involved with SPE for five years, starting out as a student chapter officer. Over his two years as Calgary Section Young Professionals Chair, he oversaw the execution of more than 25 section events per year with a budget over $90k. He also spearheaded a number of new initiatives, including the inaugural YP golf tournament in 2014 and the YP energy literacy program. Michael holds a chemical engineering degree from the University of Calgary and has worked more than four years in production and operations for SAGD projects in the Canadian oil sands.

Hamza Shaikh is a highly qualified dual MSc Petroleum Engineering and MEng Mechanical Engineering graduate from Imperial College London, as well as a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with a diverse range of technical and operational experience in Well Stimulation, Geomechanics, Fracture/Reservoir Modelling and production enhancement with economic evaluations. He currently works as an independent consultant under the trade name E-Tech Consulting Services. He devised advanced workflows for fracture modelling and field development by integrating multiple domains, including Geoscience, Petrophysics, Geomechanics, Fracture Modelling and Reservoir Engineering, helping oil companies save millions of dollars in field development projects in the Appalachian, Permian, Powder River, Western Gulf, Williston and Western Canada Sedimentary Basins.  Hamza began his career through internships in the UK at Tercel Oilfield Services, Schlumberger Information’s Solutions and BP, and afterwards joined Sanjel full-time in Canada working as a Hydraulic Fracturing Field Engineer, and a Completions Engineer in the company’s Reservoir Solutions Group prior to founding E-Tech Consulting Services. He has published six SPE and EAGE technical papers in the US, Canada and UAE, and is currently publishing two more, including one in the Netherlands. Hamza is also a recipient of the 2016 SPE Calgary Section Award for Technical Excellence and Achievement. While at Imperial College, Hamza served as the President of the SPE Student Chapter where he also organised a field trip to Trinidad and Tobago for over 40 students from the MSc course. Currently, Hamza is in his second year of service as the SPE YP Treasurer in Calgary.

Completions Optimization and Technology Award

Robert graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) with a diploma in Petroleum Engineering Technology in 1979. Robert is Corporate Technical Director, Reservoir Solutions for Trican Well Service Ltd. in Calgary. Considered a leader in his field, Robert has been published in JPT and JCPT and was co-Author, Chapter 3 “Gas Well Testing and Evaluation” of the 2007 Modern Fracturing – Enhancing Natural Gas Production, engineering text book. Robert is credited with several design innovations in pre-frac testing and has been the recipient of numerous awards including the 2006 President’s Award from the Canadian Well Logging Society (CWLS), awarded the 2008 Outstanding Service Award from the Petroleum Society Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM) and was a 2008 Distinguished Lecture with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Robert was also recognized as the 2009 ASET Technologist of the Year and in 2011 was the recipient of the SPE Canadian “Reservoir Description and Dynamics” award. Robert continues to serve on numerous Technical Program committees for the SPE.

Dr. Uliana Romanova has over 20 years of experience in the area of technology research and development, both in academia and industry. She holds a Master of Science degree in Physics and a Ph. D. degree in Chemistry from Kazan State University, Russia. She is currently employed with Delta Screens. Prior to joining Delta Screens, she worked at Institut Francais du Petrole, the University of Calgary, RPS Energy and Weatherford Canada.

The area of Dr. Romanova’s expertise is heavy oil and oil sands and formation damage, in particular sand control for thermal production operations. She is an author and co-author of over 40 technical publications. She made numerous presentations at industry technical conferences and workshops in Canada, USA, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.. She serves on a variety of SPE technical committees, including SPE Canada Heavy Oil Technical Conference and SPE Thermal Well Design and Integrity Symposium, and the Board of SPE Canada Educational Foundation.

 

Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Social Responsibility Award

Dr. Faisal Khan is Professor and Vale Research Chair of Safety and Risk Management. He has established a new research center- Centre for risk integrity and Safety and Engineering (C-RISE), which has over research 40 research members. His areas of research interest include: offshore safety and risk engineering, inherent safety, risk management, and risk-based integrity assessment and management.

He is actively involved with multinational oil and gas industries on the issue of safety and asset integrity. In 2006, he has spent eight months as risk and integrity expert with Lloyd’s Register (UK) a risk management organization. He also served as Safety and Risk Advisor to Government of Newfoundland, Canada. He continue to serve subject matter expert to many organizations that include Llyod’s Register EMEA, SBM Modco, Intecsea, Technip, and Qatargas. From 2008 to 2010, he visited Qatar University and Qatargas LNG Company as Process Safety and Risk Management Research Chair. In 2012-14 he served as Visiting Professor of Offshore and Marine Engineering at Australian Maritime College (AMC), University of Tasmania, Australia. Where he lead development of offshore safety and risk engineering group and an initiative of global engagement with many international institutions.

He is recipient of President Outstanding Research Award of 2012-2013, CSChE National Award on Process Safety Management of 2014, President Outstanding Research Supervision Award of 2013-14, and recently Society of Petroleum Engineer award for his contribution in Health, Safety and Risk Engineering. He has authored over 300 research articles in peer reviewed journals and conferences on safety, risk and reliability engineering. He has authored five books on the subject area. He is Editor to Journal of Process Safety and Environmental Protection, and Journal of Process Engineering. He regularly offers training program/workshop on safety and risk engineering in different places including St John’s, Chennai, Dubai, Beijing, Aberdeen, Doha and Kuala Lumpur.

Over a 17 year career in the upstream energy sector, Bertrand has worked in over 11 countries assisting more than 100 companies to develop workflows, analysis methodologies and software solutions focused on the delivery of consistent, reliable information for decision makers. Prior to Verdazo Analytics, Bertrand was part of Merak/Schlumberger for 7 years. Bertrand constantly strives to ensure VERDAZO continues to distinguish itself as a leader in visual analytics for the Oil and Gas industry, and enjoys collaborating with, and developing partnerships with companies and individuals that share his passion.

Process Engineer

Bent has been living in Calgary since 1957 and has watched the oil patch expand and contract many times over the years. Nevertheless, he decided to become a Chemical Engineer followed by a Masters of Chemical Engineering.  After graduating Bent did research at the U of C for two years with an Ultrapyrolysis reactor that converted heavy oil to gases plus coke. Since then he has been working as a Process Engineer with various contracting engineering firms.  Currently he is a Senior Process Engineer at WSP.

Over the years Bent has belonged to the Toastmasters club if the company had a club and where they didn’t he would try to start one. This fired up his enthusiasm about volunteering.  Two years ago bent used his contacts to start the SPE Calgary Section Toastmasters Club.

About seven years ago he met Ken Arnold when he was in Calgary doing a presentation and was asked if he would help start a PF&C SIG in Calgary.

Bent enjoys cycling around town for exercise and enjoyment.  To keep in shape he also runs 3km three times a week with a couple 10km races a year.

 

Reservoir Description and Dynamics Award

Christopher R. Clarkson is a professor and the AITF Shell/Encana Chair in Unconventional Gas and Light Oil research in the Department of Geoscience and an adjunct professor with the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Calgary. His work focus in industry was on exploration for and development of unconventional gas (UG) and light oil (ULO) reservoirs. His research focus since coming to U of Calgary in 2009 has been on advanced reservoir characterization methods for UG-ULO, such as rate- and pressure-transient analysis, flowback analysis, and core analysis.  He is also interested in simulation of enhanced recovery processes in UG-ULO, and how these processes can be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  Clarkson leads an industry-sponsored consortium called “Tight Oil Consortium”, focused on these research topics for unconventional light oil reservoirs in Western Canada.

Clarkson holds a Ph.D. degree in geological engineering from the U. of British Columbia, Canada, and is the author of numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific and engineering journals.  Clarkson was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer for the 2009/2010 lecture season.

 

Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty

Dr. Lesley James
Chevron Chair in Petroleum Engineering

Dr. Lesley James is an Associate professor and Chevron Chair in Petroleum Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University. Dr. James’ research interests focus on sustainable oil production by increasing oil recovery rates through enhanced and improved oil recovery (EOR & IOR). Currently, her focus is on maximizing recovery from offshore Newfoundland and Labrador oil and gas fields through understanding the fluid-fluid and rock-fluid interactions and particularly examining miscible/near-miscible fluid injection and optimal EOR strategies for offshore production.  Working closely with industry, Dr. James has recently commissioned a world class enhanced oil recovery laboratory at Memorial, which allows for fundamental and applied research and development in the area of enhanced and improved oil recovery. Dr. James is a Professional Engineer of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL), and is a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Society of Core Analysts (SCA) and the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineers (CSChE).

 

Distinguished Corporate Support Award

Cenovus Energy Inc. has historically and continues to support the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Canada by several means. Cenovus acts as a leader in the industry by supporting its staff in volunteer roles across SPE Canada conferences and workshops, SPE Calgary section level activities, student led initiatives and SPE publications. Cenovus provides innumerable contributions to the knowledge base surrounding oil and gas exploration and production, most specifically in the field of heavy oil and bitumen recovery. Many technical papers have been authored and co-authored by several Cenovus staff over the 7- year’s history of the company, and going back further through its various predecessors.  Specifically, contributions in the fields of steam-solvent recovery methods, slotted liner and sand control design and evaluation; sharing operational learnings; and novel recovery techniques or technologies. In 2015. Cenovus contributed to 11 technical publications with the SPE, including results of the AIDROH Pilot Project, Solvent Aided Process, Hot-Water Circulation Pilot at Pelican Lake, and Tight Oil Wettability in the Montney. Cenovus also contributed to two business articles on Reserves Estimation and Oil Price Volatility through The Way Ahead magazine. In 2016 Cenovus continued the trend by contributing to 8 technical publications and 3 industry centric articles on The Way Ahead magazine. This knowledge sharing has been instrumental in the advancement of heavy oil and bitumen recovery.

Cenovus continues to provide support to the SPE Canada Heavy Oil Conference and SPE Distinguished Lecturer series through the efforts of Subodh Gupta and other key initiatives such as the SPE Canadian Educational Foundation and The Way Magazine through the efforts of Jarrett Dragani. Aside from technical contributions, Cenovus holds the largest number of SPE memberships among any member company in Canada, and actively participates in funding conferences through attendees and sponsorships.

Society of Petroleum Engineers Names Darcy Spady as 2018 President

Dallas, Texas (June 21, 2016) — The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) announces that Darcy W. Spady, P. Eng., managing director of Broadview Energy Asset Management, has been elected as 2018 SPE president. His term as president begins in September 2017. Spady is the first Canadian elected as president of SPE.

“I am honored to have been selected, and I look forward to being a great representative not only of SPE, but of Canada and Canadian technology as well,” Spady said when his nomination was announced.

Spady has been an active SPE member since graduating from the University of Alberta with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering in 1986. He currently serves on the SPE International Board as regional director for Canada; he is also a member of the Calgary Section and the newly formed Vancouver Section. Spady has held officer positions in the Calgary, Illinois Basin and Appalachian sections. In 2012, he won a Regional Service Award for his work in the Canada region.

“Darcy has been an exemplary member of SPE for many years, and his professional service to the oil and gas industry will translate to a strong term as SPE president,” said Mark Rubin, SPE CEO and Executive Vice President. “Darcy understands the value of connecting relationships in the oil and gas business, and he will be a strong leader for our membership.”

Spady has an extensive background in the natural gas, oil and heavy oil segments of the industry, having worked a decade for Schlumberger across North America in their wireline and pressure pumping segments, as well as with the Columbia Natural Resources / Triana Energy group in the Appalachians, Atlantic Canada and internationally. He has also served as CEO of Contact Exploration in Canada and Hungary and more recently as head of sales for Sanjel Corporation. His expertise of three decades in both the independent producer and service segments of the industry greatly enhances his role at SPE.

He also is an active independent director, serving as board chairman for Green Imaging Technologies and as a board member of MNP Petroleum. He has previously served on the boards of Edge Resources, Contact Exploration, Guildhall Minerals and Poplar Point Exploration.

“Along with serving as the SPE president for 2018, I also look forward to working closely with Janeen Judah, the SPE 2017 president,” Spady said. “SPE has provided me with immeasurable professional growth, and now I am excited to give back to the organization by serving as president in 2018.”

At ATCE, Judah will begin her term as SPE president 2017, succeeding Nathan Meehan, senior executive advisor for Baker Hughes.

OTC Brasil 2015: Industry Traditional Awards Held for the First Time in Brazil  

Considered one of the main events in the global offshore oil and gas industry, the third edition of OTC Brasil is happening until Thursday in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (28 October 2015) – For the first time, OTC Brasil 2015, one of the most prominent offshore oil and gas industry events in the world, held two industry traditional awards ceremonies in Brazil.

After the topical luncheon, this Wednesday second day of the event, OTC Brasil Oversight Comittee Chairman, João Carlos de Luca, presented the Distinguished Achievement Award to Petrobras engineer Antonio Capeleiro Pinto, award for individual. “In my academic life, Brazil gave me everything. I studied in excellent public schools. In my professional life, Petrobras gave me the opportunities to develop a successful career. So I am grateful for both of them,” said Antonio.

The Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies was presented to Subsea 7, for Buoy

Supporting Risers System. The award was received by the company´s Vice-President Vitor Bomfim. “This was undoubtedly the most intense project the company accomplished in Brazil. But it’s not a coincidence that the company received this award. We have decades of investments in subsea engineering.”

In the afternoon, OTC Chairman, Joe Fowler, presented the Spotlight on New Technologies Award to FMC Technologies, for Shape Memory Alloy Fittings in Subsea Equipment, an innovative technology to replace orbital welding processes used to connect hydraulic tubing. FMC Technologies Technology and Engineering Vice-President, Paulo Couto, received the award and demonstrated the technology and its capacity to remember material shape. “It is a technology used many times in other industries, such as automotive, but first time in the application in oil and gas industry.”

Other highlights of the day happened at the topical luncheon, in which Petrobras E&P Director, Solange da Silva Guedes, showed an overview of pre-salt achievements. “Pre-salt is one of the highest cluster of knowledge turned in value in less than 10 years,” she concluded.

IBP president, Jorge Camargo, and E&P Executive Manager for Libra PSC, Anelise Lara, at Petrobras, participated in the panel “Professional Societies Leadership Summit,” where technical professional society leaders participated in an interactive panel on the role of these societies in integrating multidisciplinary technologies. Another well-attended event was the Professional of the Future program with over 700 university students.

On 29 October, Anelise Lara will discuss pre-salt performance and innovations, in a panel about Libra Field and Next Generation Projects in this new frontier of Brazilian exploration. Focused on business in Mexico, the last luncheon features Dr. Lucias Macias Chapa, Vice President of Strategic Alliances, PEMEX E&P, who will address the opportunities in the Mexican sector after the opening in the market. The prospects for oil prices on the global stage will also be discussed in another luncheon, presented by Atul Arya, his Vice President.

The exhibition included more than 160 companies and organizations, from 16 countries, presenting novel technological products and services. Malaysia is participating for the first time at OTC Brasil, with 10 companies. “Our objective at OTC Brasil is to look at the Brazilian market because there are some opportunities to transfer technology and do business with local companies, since we also face challenges in deepwater operations in Malaysia,” told Akar Bakur, MATRADE Oil & Gas Director.

OTC Brasil 2015: Industry Challenges and Employment Generation Debates in the First Day

Considered one of the main events in the global offshore oil and gas industry, the third edition of OTC Brasil is happening until Thursday in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (27 October 2015)– OTC Brasil 2015, one of the most prominent offshore oil and gas industry events in the world, began this Tuesday with an excellent technical program. Around  midday, ANP General Director, Magda Chambriard, opened the conference, with OTC chairmen, Joe Fowler, and João Carlos de Luca, and IBP president, Jorge Camargo.

With the theme “The Atlantic: from East to West – An Ocean of Innovation,” this year’s event will encompass offshore oil and gas exploration and development topics related to geology and subsurface technologies, offshore drilling and wells system, floating structures, and advanced subsea production to keep offshore facilities operating safely and efficiently.

The morning highlights included the panel session on New Oil in Old Offshore Fields, with Paulo Johann, Petrobras Geophisic Manager, who discussed seismic contributions to improve oil recovering. “4D Seismic is crucial to improve oil recovery and reduce operation costs,” Johann said.

In very dynamic panel on Pre-Salt Developments, the audience was eager to learn about the advances in this important area in Brazil. UFRJ University presented an economic study, projecting pre-salt projects performance in the new royalties sharing model.

Another highlight of the day was the topical luncheon “Megaprojects in the oil and gas industry.” The founder and president of Independent Project Analysis (IPA), Edward Merrow, addressed financial aspects in highly complex projects. According to him, one of the biggest challenges is that EPC and supply chain are coping with a demographic crisis

IBP Secretary General, Milton Costa Filho, also talked about human resources challenges. “When the barrel was around U$100, companies were hiring a lot of professionals and planning new projects. Today, we are hiring the young generation, hence we need to learn how to deal with them, with the millennials.”

Among the innovations this year  are the “Distinguished Achievement Award” and the “Spotlight on New TechnologiesSM Award,” traditional OTC awards in the US that will be held at OTC Brasil to recognize professionals and outstanding companies in the offshore E&P sector.

Tomorrow, IBP president, Jorge Camargo, and E&P Executive Manager for Libra PSC, Anelise Lara, Petrobras, will participate in the panel “Professional Societies Leadership Summit,” an opportunity for leaders to meet informally and participate in an interactive panel session themed “The Role of Professional Societies in Integrating Multidisciplinary Technologies.”

The “Professional of the Future” program, dedicated to university students is also featured in tomorrow’s agenda. In addition, the topical luncheon will have a presentation of Petrobras E&P Director, Solange da Silva Guedes, on the development of the Brazilian pre-salt and technological innovation projects in ultra-deep waters.

Rio de Janeiro, (15 Outubro de 2015) – Já começaram as inscrições para a OTC Brasil 2015, um dos eventos mais importantes da indústria de óleo e gás offshore no mundo. A conferência está sendo organizada pela Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) e pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Óleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis (IBP) e irá acontecer do dia 27 a 29 de outubro, no Riocentro, no Rio de Janeiro.

A OTC Brasil 2015 dá continuidade à tradição do evento de promover um programa técnico de alto nível, que aborda as mais recentes tecnologias disponíveis para a indústria, as soluções encontradas para os seus principais desafios, além de oferecer oportunidade de networking com os principais atores do setor no País e no mundo.

Com o tema “O Atlântico: de Leste a Oeste – Um Oceano de Inovação”, o evento deste ano irá abordar temas ligados à exploração e desenvolvimento de campos, relacionados à geologia e tecnologias subsea, drilling, estruturas flutuantes e submarinas avançadas de produção, com destaque para as aplicações no pré-sal e ênfase na segurança e eficiência.

A OTC Brasil é realizada a cada dois anos e a edição deste ano contará com 39 sessões técnicas, 12 painéis e quatro almoços temáticos. O evento acontecerá no Riocentro e terá a participação de executivos e especialistas da indústria de 24 países. A exposição contará com mais de 150 empresas e organizações de 16 países.

Entre as novidades deste ano, o evento terá a entrega pela primeira vez no Brasil do Distinguished Achievement Awards e do Spotlight on New Technology Award, ambas premiações tradicionais da indústria offshore. O primeiro prêmio vai reconhecer Antônio Carlos Capeleiro Pinto, um engenheiro da Petrobras, por suas realizações individuais, e a empresa Subsea7, pelo projeto Buoy Supporting Risers (BSR).

O prêmio Spotlight vai para a FMC Technologies por produzir Ligas com Memória de Formato para Equipamentos Submarino. A OTC Brasil 2015 também apresentará pela primeira vez o University R&D Showcase no Brasil, um espaço para as universidades para compartilhar com os participantes os seus projetos relevantes para a indústria.

Durante a conferência, os líderes de AMSE, ASCE, SBGf, SEG e SPE, sociedades profissionais internacionais e brasileiros, vão se reunir no Leadership Summit para apresentar suas perspectivas sobre a forma de promover uma maior colaboração entre estas sociedades.

“Esta é a terceira edição da OTC Brasil, o que comprova a importância do País no cenário global da indústria de petróleo e gás. A parceria entre IBP e OTC tornou-se mais forte ao longo dos anos e nossa expectativa é reunir os maiores especialistas e executivos do setor para aprender sobre os últimos avanços tecnológicos e discutir as perspectivas de negócios globalmente”, disse João Carlos de Luca, presidente do Comitê Consultivo da OTC para o Brasil.

Um dos destaques do primeiro dia evento é o almoço “Megaprojetos na indústria de petróleo e gás.” A apresentação será feita pelo fundador e presidente da Independent Project Analysis (IPA), Edward Merrow, que abordará aspectos financeiros em projetos de alta complexidade.

No dia 28 de outubro, o presidente do IBP, Jorge Camargo, e a Gerente Executiva para Libra, da Petrobras, Anelise Lara, participarão do evento “Professional Societies Leadership Summit”. Durante este encontro, os líderes das mais importantes entidades profissionais ligadas ao setor no Brasil e no Mundo, entre elas AMSE, ASCE, SBGf, SEG e SPE, vão apresentar suas perspectivas sobre a forma de promover uma maior colaboração entre estas sociedades.

No mesmo dia, o programa “Profissional do Futuro”, do IBP, que promove o desenvolvimento de jovens profissionais, dedicado exclusivamente a estudantes técnicos e universitários, também é destaque na agenda. Haverá duas palestras com profissionais de destaque no setor.

O almoço do dia 28 terá uma apresentação da Diretora de E&P da Petrobras, Solange Guedes, sobre o desenvolvimento dos projetos no pré-sal e as inovações tecnológicas em águas ultra-profundas.

No dia 29 de outubro, Anelise Lara vai falar sobre o desempenho do pré-sal e das inovações, de um painel sobre o campo de Libra e projetos de próxima geração nesta nova fronteira exploratória brasileira. Com foco em negócios no México, o último almoço do evento trará ainda o Diretor de Operações da Pemex E&P, Gustavo Hernández-García, que abordará as oportunidades no setor em seu país após a abertura do mercado. As perspectivas para os preços do petróleo no cenário global também serão discutidas em outro almoço paralelo, com apresentação de Atul Arya, vice-presidente da IHS.

Worldwide Offshore Experts to Gather at OTC Brasil 27–29 October 2015

Considered one of the largest events in oil and gas industry in the world, OTC Brasil happens for the third time in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (14 October 2015) – Between 27 and 29 October, Rio de Janeiro will host OTC Brasil 2015, one of the most important offshore oil and gas industry events in the world. Held for the third time in the country, the conference is chaired by João Carlos de Luca, of IBP, with Orlando Ribeiro, of Petrobras, and Fernando Frimm, of GustoMSC, serving as co-chairman.

With the theme “The Atlantic: from east to west – An Ocean of Innovation”, this year’s event will encompass offshore oil and gas exploration and development topics related to geology and subsurface technologies, offshore drilling and wells system, floating structures, and advanced subsea production to keep offshore facilities operating safely and efficiently. Among the confirmed speakers are Petrobras Director of Exploration and Production, Solange Guedes; Petrobras Libra Executive Manager, Anelise Lara; and Pemex E&P General Director, Gustavo Hernández-García.

“This is third edition of OTC Brasil, what proves the importance of the country on the global stage of oil and gas industry. The partnership between IBP and OTC has become stronger over the years and our expectation is to gather top experts and industry executives to learn about the latest technological advances and discuss business prospects globally,” said João Carlos de Luca, OTC Brasil Oversight Committee Chairman.

Held every two years, OTC Brasil presents a robust technical program with 39 technical sessions, 12 panels and four thematic luncheons. More than 220 papers selected by industry experts will be presented, covering topics in geoscience, drilling systems, subsea processing and asset integrity, among others.

This premier event will take place at Riocentro, and will be attended by E&P executives and industry experts from 24 countries. The exhibition will have over 150 companies and organizations, from 16 countries.

Among the innovations this year is the “University R&D Showcase” a program in which 11 Brazilian universities and research centers will present new technologies that are being developed for the industry.

The “Distinguished Achievement Award” and the “Spotlight on New TechnologiesSM Award,” traditional OTC awards in the US, will be held at OTC Brasil for the first time to recognize professional and outstanding companies in the offshore E&P sector.

With the theme “The Atlantic: from East to West – An Ocean of Innovation,” this year’s event will encompass offshore oil and gas exploration and development topics related to geology and subsurface technologies, offshore drilling and wells system, floating structures, and advanced subsea production to keep offshore facilities operating safely and efficiently, and will be attended by executives and experts from 24 countries.

OTC Brasil is held every two years, and this year’s edition will feature 39 technical sessions, 12 panels and four thematic luncheons. The event will take place at Riocentro, and will be attended by E&P executives and industry experts from 24 countries. The exhibition will have over 150 companies and organizations, from 16 countries.

The event will have several new features this year. For the first time, it will present Distinguished Achievement Awards and Spotlight on New Technology sm Award in Brazil, both traditional industry acknowledgments. The first award will recognize Antônio Carlos Capeleiro Pinto, a Petrobras engineer, for individual achievement and the company Subsea7, for Buoy Supporting Risers (BSR) Project.

The Spotlight Award goes to FMC Technologies for the company’s Shape Memory Alloy Fittings in Subsea Equipment. OTC Brasil 2015 will also hold University R&D Showcase, a space for universities to share with attendees their relevant projects for the industry.

During the conference, leaders of AMSE, ASCE, SBGf, SEG and SPE, international and Brazilian professional societies, will gather on Leadership Summit to present their perspectives on how to foster greater collaboration between these societies.
