Former SPE President Dies

Gustavo Inciarte, SPE’s first president from Latin America and a former member of the board of directors of  Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA), died 27 January in Norman, Oklahoma, after a short illness. He was 71.

Inciarte’s 45 years as an SPE member was highlighted by his selection as 1999 SPE president. During his tenure, SPE made progress on several issues that would bear fruit in the following decade, including developing reserves and resources definitions, forging cooperation with other professional societies, and laying the groundwork for SPE’s website. He also served on the SPE Board of Directors as regional director for the South America and Caribbean Region. Continue reading

Nominations being accepted for intervention technology award

The Intervention and Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) is now accepting nominations and entries for the 3rd Annual Intervention Technology Award. The award, which recognizes outstanding technical innovation or technology application in well intervention, will be presented at the SPE/ICoTA Coiled Tubing and Well Intervention Conference and Exhibition later this year. Nigeria annual conference draws international crowd

More than 1,500 oil and gas professionals from around the globe converged on Abuja, Nigeria during 4–6 August of this year for the SPE Nigeria Annual Conference and Exhibition. With a theme of “Innovating to Meet the Challenges of Global Energy Demand,” the conference explored key industry issues such as finding sustainable solutions for the increasing worldwide energy demand and developing innovative ideas and technologies that will produce hydrocarbons more efficiently. R&D Technical Section to hold dinner meeting at ATCE 2008

The Research & Development (R&D) Technical Section will hold a dinner meeting during ATCE 2008 in Denver’s Colorado Convention Center on Wednesday, 24 September. Section Chairperson J. Chris Buckingham of the Southwest Research Institute thinks the meeting will offer members a fresh perspective on the section’s progress over the past year and new opportunities for involvement.
