OTC Brasil 2017 Advisory Committee Convenes in Rio de Janeiro

Featuring the participation of Christino Áureo, Brazil’s Secretary of State for Civil and Economic Development; Pedro Parente, Petrobras CEO; João Carlos de Luca, Barra Energia-IBP President and OTC Brasil 2017 general chairman.

Richardson, Texas (2 August 2017)—The first OTC Brasil 2017 Advisory Committee Meeting happened on 25 July with several authorities, executives of oil and gas companies, and representatives of business entities in attendance.

Among them were Christino Áureo, Secretary of State for Civil and Economic Development; Pedro Parente, Petrobras CEO; three Petrobras directors; and João de Luca, OTC Brasil 2017 Chairman. Their planning will contribute to the success of the 2017 event, scheduled for 24-26 October at Rio Centro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Christino Áureo stressed that OTC Brasil will be held at an opportune time when the State of Rio begins its path of fiscal rebalancing and gradual recovery of economic development from the homologation of the Tax Recovery Regime.

He said, “OTC Brasil is a symbol of the turning point about to occur in the State with the adhesion to the Tax Recovery Regime. We believe in crossing the oil and gas sector – the main one in the state.”

According to the secretary, it is important to ensure a favorable environment for investments in the state’s oil and gas sector. He believes it is important to create an environment of understanding, making clear that the state is investment friendly and that any distortions in the tax or environmental environment will be resolved with wide negotiation and responsibility of all the parties seated at the table.

OTC Brasil Chairman João Carlos de Luca said he believes this edition will be marked by the optimism of companies who can benefit from the positive changes in Brazil’s regulatory environment.

OTC Brasil Names 2017 Distinguished Achievement Award Recipients

Winners to Be Honored 25 October in Rio de Janeiro 

 Richardson Texas, USA (2 August 2017) –OTC Brasil, 24-26 October 2017, will recognize Paulo Cuoto for individual achievement and Shell BC-10 Life of Field Seismic Monitoring System for corporate achievement.

The recipients will be honored during the awards luncheon on 25 October at Riocentro Exhibition and Convention Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These achievements are truly significant contributions to the oil and gas industry in Brazil.

OTC Brasil provides an excellent technical program that addresses innovative technical advances and opportunities for the deep and ultra-deepwater offshore sector in Brazil, including the latest government regulatory changes and upcoming licensing presalt rounds. It also offers networking opportunities as well as contributions to social programs in Brazil.

 OTC Brasil Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals
Paulo Couto, TechnipFMC, will be recognized with the Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals for his significant contributions to the technical development and management of subsea systems in Brazil.

With a career of excellence since 1980, Couto is a groundbreaking researcher and leading innovator, recognized as a cornerstone of subsea engineering worldwide. He pioneered the development of sophisticated subsea systems in Brazil including deepwater trees, connection systems, manifold systems, control systems and subsea processing, and a global leadership role in lean product development and design thinking philosophies to the oil industry. Couto has dedicated his career to be a catalyst of innumerous developments and advances of subsea technologies.

Couto is the author of several technical papers for OTC and the Society of Petroleum Engineers and holds several patents in subsea technologies. In 1992, he received the Technology Award for Engineering Innovation from ASME, and has received four FMC Technologies’ Chairman Awards.

 OTC Brasil Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies, Organizations, and Institutions

The Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies, Organizations, and Institutions recognizes Shell BC-10 Life of Field Seismic Monitoring System for their success in developing the deepest full field installation of a LoFS system in the world. The project was successfully deployed under a fast-track schedule and continues to deliver relevant reservoir behavior data after four years of operation.

This outstanding project, also known as Parque das Conchas (BC-10), covers the entire reservoir and consists of 14 seismic cables, totaling 99 km, and 11km of backbone cable connecting back to a small hub. It reduces emissions and the environmental footprint, and represents a technology showcase aimed at delivering business value by safely maximizing reservoir recovery factors.

LACPEC Returns to Argentina, Home of the Second Largest Unconventional Gas Resource In the World

Richardson, Texas (27 February 2017)—With a long tradition as the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ (SPE) foremost event in the region, the Latin America and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference (LACPEC) returns to Buenos Aires, Argentina from 17-19 May 2017 at the Sheraton Hotel and Convention Center.

Chevron Commits $800,000 for SPE Student Programs

DALLAS, Texas (Jan, 12, 2017) –
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) announces that Chevron Corporation has committed $800,000 over four years to support SPE’s programs that are dedicated to increasing student participation and advancing energy education

Chevron will be the sole sponsor of the student dues program, which provides support for college students to join SPE’s global network of student chapters. SPE has nearly 69,000 student members in 130 countries.

Also, Chevron will support the Energy4me program in which teachers and students gain invaluable knowledge about the oil and gas industry. Students learn skills on how to think, problem solve and adapt to changing conditions – competencies required to be a successful engineer. The program also educates teachers on using hands-on activities to illustrate technical aspects of engineering.

“As a not-for-profit organization, SPE counts on the generous support of companies such as Chevron to offer valuable programs to our professional and student members,” said Mark Rubin, SPE CEO and Executive Vice President. “The future of the industry relies heavily on the young professionals and students coming up in the ranks, and Chevron’s generous donation ensures students both develop their skills and benefit from SPE’s global resources.”

Society of Petroleum Engineers Names Darcy Spady as 2018 President

Dallas, Texas (June 21, 2016) — The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) announces that Darcy W. Spady, P. Eng., managing director of Broadview Energy Asset Management, has been elected as 2018 SPE president. His term as president begins in September 2017. Spady is the first Canadian elected as president of SPE.

“I am honored to have been selected, and I look forward to being a great representative not only of SPE, but of Canada and Canadian technology as well,” Spady said when his nomination was announced.

Spady has been an active SPE member since graduating from the University of Alberta with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering in 1986. He currently serves on the SPE International Board as regional director for Canada; he is also a member of the Calgary Section and the newly formed Vancouver Section. Spady has held officer positions in the Calgary, Illinois Basin and Appalachian sections. In 2012, he won a Regional Service Award for his work in the Canada region.

“Darcy has been an exemplary member of SPE for many years, and his professional service to the oil and gas industry will translate to a strong term as SPE president,” said Mark Rubin, SPE CEO and Executive Vice President. “Darcy understands the value of connecting relationships in the oil and gas business, and he will be a strong leader for our membership.”

Spady has an extensive background in the natural gas, oil and heavy oil segments of the industry, having worked a decade for Schlumberger across North America in their wireline and pressure pumping segments, as well as with the Columbia Natural Resources / Triana Energy group in the Appalachians, Atlantic Canada and internationally. He has also served as CEO of Contact Exploration in Canada and Hungary and more recently as head of sales for Sanjel Corporation. His expertise of three decades in both the independent producer and service segments of the industry greatly enhances his role at SPE.

He also is an active independent director, serving as board chairman for Green Imaging Technologies and as a board member of MNP Petroleum. He has previously served on the boards of Edge Resources, Contact Exploration, Guildhall Minerals and Poplar Point Exploration.

“Along with serving as the SPE president for 2018, I also look forward to working closely with Janeen Judah, the SPE 2017 president,” Spady said. “SPE has provided me with immeasurable professional growth, and now I am excited to give back to the organization by serving as president in 2018.”

At ATCE, Judah will begin her term as SPE president 2017, succeeding Nathan Meehan, senior executive advisor for Baker Hughes.

OTC Brasil 2015: Industry Traditional Awards Held for the First Time in Brazil  

Considered one of the main events in the global offshore oil and gas industry, the third edition of OTC Brasil is happening until Thursday in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (28 October 2015) – For the first time, OTC Brasil 2015, one of the most prominent offshore oil and gas industry events in the world, held two industry traditional awards ceremonies in Brazil.

After the topical luncheon, this Wednesday second day of the event, OTC Brasil Oversight Comittee Chairman, João Carlos de Luca, presented the Distinguished Achievement Award to Petrobras engineer Antonio Capeleiro Pinto, award for individual. “In my academic life, Brazil gave me everything. I studied in excellent public schools. In my professional life, Petrobras gave me the opportunities to develop a successful career. So I am grateful for both of them,” said Antonio.

The Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies was presented to Subsea 7, for Buoy

Supporting Risers System. The award was received by the company´s Vice-President Vitor Bomfim. “This was undoubtedly the most intense project the company accomplished in Brazil. But it’s not a coincidence that the company received this award. We have decades of investments in subsea engineering.”

In the afternoon, OTC Chairman, Joe Fowler, presented the Spotlight on New Technologies Award to FMC Technologies, for Shape Memory Alloy Fittings in Subsea Equipment, an innovative technology to replace orbital welding processes used to connect hydraulic tubing. FMC Technologies Technology and Engineering Vice-President, Paulo Couto, received the award and demonstrated the technology and its capacity to remember material shape. “It is a technology used many times in other industries, such as automotive, but first time in the application in oil and gas industry.”

Other highlights of the day happened at the topical luncheon, in which Petrobras E&P Director, Solange da Silva Guedes, showed an overview of pre-salt achievements. “Pre-salt is one of the highest cluster of knowledge turned in value in less than 10 years,” she concluded.

IBP president, Jorge Camargo, and E&P Executive Manager for Libra PSC, Anelise Lara, at Petrobras, participated in the panel “Professional Societies Leadership Summit,” where technical professional society leaders participated in an interactive panel on the role of these societies in integrating multidisciplinary technologies. Another well-attended event was the Professional of the Future program with over 700 university students.

On 29 October, Anelise Lara will discuss pre-salt performance and innovations, in a panel about Libra Field and Next Generation Projects in this new frontier of Brazilian exploration. Focused on business in Mexico, the last luncheon features Dr. Lucias Macias Chapa, Vice President of Strategic Alliances, PEMEX E&P, who will address the opportunities in the Mexican sector after the opening in the market. The prospects for oil prices on the global stage will also be discussed in another luncheon, presented by Atul Arya, his Vice President.

The exhibition included more than 160 companies and organizations, from 16 countries, presenting novel technological products and services. Malaysia is participating for the first time at OTC Brasil, with 10 companies. “Our objective at OTC Brasil is to look at the Brazilian market because there are some opportunities to transfer technology and do business with local companies, since we also face challenges in deepwater operations in Malaysia,” told Akar Bakur, MATRADE Oil & Gas Director.

OTC Brasil 2015: Industry Challenges and Employment Generation Debates in the First Day

Considered one of the main events in the global offshore oil and gas industry, the third edition of OTC Brasil is happening until Thursday in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (27 October 2015)– OTC Brasil 2015, one of the most prominent offshore oil and gas industry events in the world, began this Tuesday with an excellent technical program. Around  midday, ANP General Director, Magda Chambriard, opened the conference, with OTC chairmen, Joe Fowler, and João Carlos de Luca, and IBP president, Jorge Camargo.

With the theme “The Atlantic: from East to West – An Ocean of Innovation,” this year’s event will encompass offshore oil and gas exploration and development topics related to geology and subsurface technologies, offshore drilling and wells system, floating structures, and advanced subsea production to keep offshore facilities operating safely and efficiently.

The morning highlights included the panel session on New Oil in Old Offshore Fields, with Paulo Johann, Petrobras Geophisic Manager, who discussed seismic contributions to improve oil recovering. “4D Seismic is crucial to improve oil recovery and reduce operation costs,” Johann said.

In very dynamic panel on Pre-Salt Developments, the audience was eager to learn about the advances in this important area in Brazil. UFRJ University presented an economic study, projecting pre-salt projects performance in the new royalties sharing model.

Another highlight of the day was the topical luncheon “Megaprojects in the oil and gas industry.” The founder and president of Independent Project Analysis (IPA), Edward Merrow, addressed financial aspects in highly complex projects. According to him, one of the biggest challenges is that EPC and supply chain are coping with a demographic crisis

IBP Secretary General, Milton Costa Filho, also talked about human resources challenges. “When the barrel was around U$100, companies were hiring a lot of professionals and planning new projects. Today, we are hiring the young generation, hence we need to learn how to deal with them, with the millennials.”

Among the innovations this year  are the “Distinguished Achievement Award” and the “Spotlight on New TechnologiesSM Award,” traditional OTC awards in the US that will be held at OTC Brasil to recognize professionals and outstanding companies in the offshore E&P sector.

Also for the first time at OTC Brasil the “University R&D Showcase” a program in which 11 Brazilian universities and research centers will present new technologies that are being developed for the industry.

Tomorrow, IBP president, Jorge Camargo, and E&P Executive Manager for Libra PSC, Anelise Lara, Petrobras, will participate in the panel “Professional Societies Leadership Summit,” an opportunity for leaders to meet informally and participate in an interactive panel session themed “The Role of Professional Societies in Integrating Multidisciplinary Technologies.”

The “Professional of the Future” program, dedicated to university students is also featured in tomorrow’s agenda. In addition, the topical luncheon will have a presentation of Petrobras E&P Director, Solange da Silva Guedes, on the development of the Brazilian pre-salt and technological innovation projects in ultra-deep waters.

On Thursday 29 October, E&P Executive Manager for Libra PSC, Petrobras, Anelise Lara will discuss pre-salt performance and innovations, in a panel about Libra Field and Next Generation Projects in this new frontier of Brazilian exploration.

Focused on business in Mexico, the last luncheon will bring Dr. Lucias Macias Chapa, Vice President of Strategic Alliances, PEMEX E&P, who will address the opportunities in the Mexican sector after the opening in the market. Rio de Janeiro, (15 Outubro de 2015) – Já começaram as inscrições para a OTC Brasil 2015, um dos eventos mais importantes da indústria de óleo e gás offshore no mundo. Os profissionais e estudantes que desejarem se inscrever podem fazê-lo no site do evento (www.otcbrasil.org), aproveitando descontos especiais até a próxima quarta-feira (20/10).

A conferência está sendo organizada pela Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) e pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Óleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis (IBP) e irá acontecer do dia 27 a 29 de outubro, no Riocentro, no Rio de Janeiro.

A OTC Brasil 2015 dá continuidade à tradição do evento de promover um programa técnico de alto nível, que aborda as mais recentes tecnologias disponíveis para a indústria, as soluções encontradas para os seus principais desafios, além de oferecer oportunidade de networking com os principais atores do setor no País e no mundo.

Com o tema “O Atlântico: de Leste a Oeste – Um Oceano de Inovação”, o evento deste ano irá abordar temas ligados à exploração e desenvolvimento de campos, relacionados à geologia e tecnologias subsea, drilling, estruturas flutuantes e submarinas avançadas de produção, com destaque para as aplicações no pré-sal e ênfase na segurança e eficiência.

A OTC Brasil é realizada a cada dois anos e a edição deste ano contará com 39 sessões técnicas, 12 painéis e quatro almoços temáticos. O evento acontecerá no Riocentro e terá a participação de executivos e especialistas da indústria de 24 países. A exposição contará com mais de 150 empresas e organizações de 16 países.

Entre as novidades deste ano, o evento terá a entrega pela primeira vez no Brasil do Distinguished Achievement Awards e do Spotlight on New Technology Award, ambas premiações tradicionais da indústria offshore. O primeiro prêmio vai reconhecer Antônio Carlos Capeleiro Pinto, um engenheiro da Petrobras, por suas realizações individuais, e a empresa Subsea7, pelo projeto Buoy Supporting Risers (BSR).

O prêmio Spotlight vai para a FMC Technologies por produzir Ligas com Memória de Formato para Equipamentos Submarino. A OTC Brasil 2015 também apresentará pela primeira vez o University R&D Showcase no Brasil, um espaço para as universidades para compartilhar com os participantes os seus projetos relevantes para a indústria.

Durante a conferência, os líderes de AMSE, ASCE, SBGf, SEG e SPE, sociedades profissionais internacionais e brasileiros, vão se reunir no Leadership Summit para apresentar suas perspectivas sobre a forma de promover uma maior colaboração entre estas sociedades.

Especialistas em Offshore do mundo inteiro se reúnem na OTC Brasil 2015

Considerado um dos maiores eventos da indústria de óleo e gás, a conferência acontece pela terceira vez no País, de 27 a 29 de outubro, no Riocentro

Rio de Janeiro, Brasil (14 de outubro de 2015) – Entre 27 e 29 de Outubro, o Rio de Janeiro sediará a OTC Brasil 2015, um dos eventos mais importantes da indústria de petróleo e gás no mundo. Realizada pela terceira vez no País, a conferência tem como chairman João Carlos de Luca, do IBP, e Orlando Ribeiro, da Petrobras, além de Fernando Frimm, da GustoMSC, como vice-chairman.

Com o tema “O Atlântico: de Leste a Oeste – Um Oceano de Inovação”, o evento deste ano irá abordar temas ligados à exploração e desenvolvimento de campos, relacionados à geologia e geofísica assim como tecnologias subsea, de drilling, estruturas flutuantes e submarinas avançadas de produção, com destaque para as aplicações no pré-sal e ênfase na segurança e eficiência do setor.

“Esta é a terceira edição da OTC Brasil, o que comprova a importância do País no cenário global da indústria de petróleo e gás. Um dos destaques do primeiro dia evento é o almoço “Megaprojetos na indústria de petróleo e gás.” A apresentação será feita pelo fundador e presidente da Independent Project Analysis (IPA), Edward Merrow, que abordará aspectos financeiros em projetos de alta complexidade.

No dia 28 de outubro, o presidente do IBP, Jorge Camargo, e a Gerente Executiva para Libra, da Petrobras, Anelise Lara, participarão do evento “Professional Societies Leadership Summit”. Durante este encontro, os líderes das mais importantes entidades profissionais ligadas ao setor no Brasil e no Mundo, entre elas AMSE, ASCE, SBGf, SEG e SPE, vão apresentar suas perspectivas sobre a forma de promover uma maior colaboração entre estas sociedades.

No mesmo dia, o programa “Profissional do Futuro”, do IBP, que promove o desenvolvimento de jovens profissionais, dedicado exclusivamente a estudantes técnicos e universitários, também é destaque na agenda. Haverá duas palestras com profissionais de destaque no setor.

O almoço do dia 28 terá uma apresentação da Diretora de E&P da Petrobras, Solange Guedes, sobre o desenvolvimento dos projetos no pré-sal e as inovações tecnológicas em águas ultra-profundas.

No dia 29 de outubro, Anelise Lara vai falar sobre o desempenho do pré-sal e das inovações, de um painel sobre o campo de Libra e projetos de próxima geração nesta nova fronteira exploratória brasileira. Com foco em negócios no México, o último almoço do evento trará ainda o Diretor de Operações da Pemex E&P, Gustavo Hernández-García, que abordará as oportunidades no setor em seu país após a abertura do mercado. As perspectivas para os preços do petróleo no cenário global também serão discutidas em outro almoço paralelo, com apresentação de Atul Arya, vice-presidente da IHS.
