Hi SPE Members –
During my travels, members in some of the outlying areas of the world tell me about problems they have in getting JPT delivered to them. I wanted to take a moment to talk about what we’re doing to ensure delivery of JPT to every member.
- Hand-delivery of JPT–We hand-delivered more than 1,380 issues in June!
- Seeking private vendors who can provide the best service.
- Obtaining written confirmation from the vendors to track deliveries.
To further help us ensure the timely delivery, we are seeking JPT monitors. A JPT monitor would be responsible for notifying SPE via a simple email, when they receive their monthly issue of JPT. These monitors will help us be more proactive in identifying potential delivery problems.

Please join SPE in congratulating the 2012 SPE International Award recipients. The SPE Board of Directors approved the 2012 International Award recipients at their recent meeting. Seventeen international award committees recommended these winners to the board because of their outstanding and significant technical, professional, and service contributions to SPE and the petroleum industry. The winners were chosen from a pool of first rate candidates. SPE President Ganesh Thakur will present the awards to the winners at ATCE in San Antonio Texas.

NOTE: This fraudulent scheme is still an on-going issue for our organization and our members and your help is appreciated.
Over the last few days it has come to our attention that criminals are using SPE’s corporate name in an attempt to commit fraud on the public. To date, there have been numerous checks presented to banks for collections. In each case, an individual receives a fraudulent check with SPE’s name as the payer, along with a San Francisco address. The individual is then asked to deposit the check, and forward funds to another person.
SPE is in no way involved in this fraud scheme. SPE has no San Francisco address, and would never request that a payee forward funds to anyone.
SPE has contacted its bank, and notified the proper authorities. If you receive an unexpected check from The Society of Petroleum Engineers, Inc. and are asked to in turn send money to someone else, please contact Cheryl Finnerty at 972-952-9424. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, SEND MONEY TO ANYONE BASED ON THESE FRAUDULENT DOCUMENTS.

SPE’s Dallas office has temporarily moved to Allen, Texas, during a renovation of the Richardson office. The move took place during the weekend of 1-4 December and the Richardson building is completely vacant and now awaiting the start of the renovation. The expected construction start date is early February, and the final construction completion date is expected to be in November, with anticipated move in date to be around mid-December 2012.

Guidelines for Application of the Petroleum Resources Management System (PRMS), which provides information and examples on use of the PRMS, is now available for free download. The new guidelines are the work of subject matter experts from SPE, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers, and the World Petroleum Council.
